When will Chucky be returning to Syfy for second season?
By Carla Davis
Syfy’s Chucky series seems like a set where the actors just have a lot of fun being together and playing out the bonkers plotline. Season one was a rousing success, and it was not really surprising to hear that the series was renewed for an upcoming second season.
There have been several announcements over the past few months regarding the second season, so let’s dive into everything we know so far.
First and foremost, there has been no date announced for the season premier as of yet. The first season made its debut on October 12 of 2021, so it’s a pretty safe bet that October 2022 is the likely month for season two to hit.
Now, on to cast news. Returning actors include Zackary Arthur (Jake), Bjorgvin Arnason (Devon), Alyvia Alyn Lind (Lexy), Alex Vincent (Andy), Christine Elise (Kyle), Barbara Alyn Woods (Mayor Cross), Jennifer Tilly (Tiffany) and the voice of Brad Dourif as the iconic red-haired Chucky,
In a surprise announcement, it looks like actor Devon Sawa will also return, despite dying twice in the first season. He played twins, each of whom was killed by Chucky. So…maybe they were triplets? Regardless, he wouldn’t be the first character to return from the dead in the Child’s Play / Chucky universe.
Sawa made the announcement himself in a fun social media video, reading aloud a letter written to him by Chucky. In part, it read: “I just want you to know that the only reason that you’re here is because I allowed it. Have a great season 2. Love, Chucky. P.S. Just kidding, you suck.”
Jennifer Tilly and creator Don Mancini announced some newer additions to the cast via onset photos. The most exciting news was a reunion of sorts for Tilly, Gina Gershon and Joey Pantoliano, who appeared together in 1996’s thriller Bound (one of my favorites). Tilly’s sister, Meg Tilly (Psycho II) will also be joining the cast.
Don Mancini did some of the writing for acclaimed horror series Hannibal, and one of the stars of that series will be appearing in Chucky season two as well: Lara Jean Chorostecki, who played Freddie Lounds in the gory show inspired by The Silence of the Lambs.
It seems like everyone involved is excited about the return, so 1428 Elm will keep you informed as more details are announced.
