Ghostober: Here are all of the Halloween shows coming to Food Network
By Carla Davis
Ghostober is back, and it starts in September with a Ghostober Preview Party on Travel Channel. The event is referred to as “the unofficial start of the holiday season” by Kathleen Finch, chairman and chief content officer of U.S. Networks Group Warner Bros. Discovery.
Ghostober will bring new spooky content to Travel Channel, Food Network and discovery+, but this article will stick to Food Network’s offerings. Don’t worry, we will jump into the content that will be available on Travel Channel and discovery+ in a separate article.
The fun begins on September 12 at 10:00 p.m. ET with the Ghostober Preview Party. The party will give us sneak peeks of the special programming, and will be hosted by the Ghost Brothers. There will also be special appearances by Jason Hawes (Ghost Hunters) and medium Cindy Kaza (Ghosts of Devil’s Perch).
Now I love some good scary horror / Halloween content as much as the next gal, but I am also glued to my tv when Food Network’s fun holiday-themed shows come on each week. Halloween Baking Championship hits the channel and streams on discovery+ beginning September 12, 9:00 p.m. ET.
Ghostober brings on the sweet, sweet Halloween goodness
On the new season of Halloween Baking Championship, John Henson will welcome the competitors to a haunted hotel, of which he is the caretaker. Each is reserved for an eight-week stay, but if their creations do not impress the judges, they must check out early by taking the elevator to the 13th floor. Legend has it that anyone who goes to the 13th floor never returns (insert evil laugh here).
The guest judges this season include Carla Hall, Stephanie Bowell and Zac Young, who will award the Halloween Baking Champion with an all-expenses paid trip to the 10 most-haunted hotels in the US. The season includes six one-hour episodes and two “super-sized” two-hour episodes.
Next up is Halloween Wars, which premieres Sunday, September 18, 9:00 p.m. ET on both Food Network and discovery+.
Ghost Adventures’ Zak Bagans returns for a second year to present the scariest, most haunted places in the world to the nine teams competing. Each team consists of pumpkin, sugar and cake artists who must work together to present the most frightening and inventive Halloween creations to host Eddie Jackson and judges Aarti Sequeira and Shinmin Li.
The winning team will receive not only the Halloween Wars Champion title, but also a trip to Paris, France, which is one of the most haunted (and beautiful) cities in the world.
Outrageous Pumpkins returns to Food Network and discovery+ on Sunday, September 25, 10:00 p.m. The new season will be hosted by Sunny Anderson (prior seasons featured Alyson Hannigan), and over the four one-hour episodes, judges Terri Hardin and Paul Dever will critique incredibly talented pumpkin carvers’ creations. The winner will be designated the Outrageous Pumpkins Champion, and be awarded the coveted Outrageous Pumpkin Prize Belt.
Halloween Cookie Challenge’s first season debuts Monday, September 26, 10:00 p.m. on both Food Network and discovery+. On this all-new series, five bakers with mad skills will compete for the title of Halloween Cookie Champion by creating gorgeous, spooky and tasty Halloween cookies. Rosanna Pansino and Jet Tila will take on the hosting duties for this six-episode series.
Kids Baking Championship: Trick or Eat is a one-hour special premiering Monday, October 17, 8:00 p.m. ET on Food Network and discovery+. Four of our favorite bakers from last season’s Kids Baking Championship will return to the Halloween-themed kitchen, where Duff Goldman and Maneet Chauhan will challenge them to come up with the most delicious and creative “Halloween Mask Pie.” Each baker will have to use ingredients collected by trick-or-treating, and we are promised a sudden twist. The winning baker will receive a $10,000 prize pack that includes baking equipment and tools.
Whew! That’s a lot of sugar and pumpkins, isn’t it? Be sure to tune in for the fun beginning in September. Scared you won’t be home to catch the series and special on Food Network? Check out the discovery+ website, where you can get a free 7-day trial subscription and stream at your leisure.
