Shudder and the Boulets announce The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula: Titans series
By Carla Davis
Fans of Shudder series The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula have been waiting anxiously for more news about their upcoming spinoff series. Well, wait no more, an official announcement has been made regarding The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula: Titans.
The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula: Titans will debut right in the heart of spooky season with a two-episode premiere. The series will roll out on both Shudder and AMC+, with new episodes premiering weekly.
Not sure who the Boulet Brothers are? Fangoria referred to them recently as “horror’s new icons”, and fans of The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs were introduced to the twosome on the Heartbreak Trailer Park special in February of this year.
The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula is a reality show best described as drag competition with a terrifying twist. Each of the featured queens are tasked with creating horror-based costumes and performances, followed by the two lowest rated competitors participating in an extreme challenge. The loser is “killed” by the Boulets in an inventive, bloody manner.
The two-episode debut of The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula: Titans will premiere on Tuesday, October 25.
During the ten-episode run of the series, some of our favorite drag icons from previous seasons of Dragula will return to compete with one another in eye-popping creative challenges and intense physical challenges. The winner will receive the grand prize of $100,000, the headline spot on an upcoming world tour and the Dragula Titans title and crown.
While all of this sounds very much like the Dragula we are familiar with, we are also promised a “haunted mansion full of twists and turns” and an underworld set created just for the new series.
The Boulet Brothers say they wanted the series to feel familiar, but also wanted it “to feel elevated from a regular season in order to match the incredible talent of the artists.” They also promise many shocking twists and turns that prompted the competitors to affectionately dub the series “Gagula.”
The list of returning competitors will be announced at a later time, but at least some of the cast of guest judges have been announced. The rotating cast of judges will include Cassandra Peterson (Elvira), Justin Simien (director of Disney’s new Haunted Mansion), Harvey Guillen (What We Do in the Shadows), David Dastmalchian (Dune), drag superstars Alaska and Katya, Joe Bob Briggs and Barbara Crampton (Jakob’s Wife). We are also promised that some surprise guests will be popping in throughout the season.
Shudder and The Boulet Brothers recently announced a multi-project partnership, and The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula: Titans is the first to come out of the merger. We will also have a new season of Dragula to look forward to, as well as some as-yet unannounced projects.
