Arrow in March – a month full of cult classics turned up to max volume
Moving into March, Arrow is pumping out a devious display of some of the most accomplished and eclectic collections from fascinating filmmakers of cinema. It is truly the luck of the Irish as Arrow subscribers get to dip into many new documentaries and some seasons designed to get inside the head of many famous filmmakers of yore. They close us out with an action spectacular from Sammo Hung, leaving subscribers always satisfied but ready for next month. Lets look ahead to the March offerings from Arrow.
Arrow launches into the month with a duo of documentaries from Paul Joyce dropping on March 3rd. The first explores the career of Dennis Hopper, who starred in blockbusters such as Apocalypse Now and Blue Velvet after changing the tides of Hollywood itself with his debut film Easy Rider. Listen to him speak candidly in an intimate interview in Dennis Hopper: Some Kind of Genius. Dropping in tandem is an all access peek into the brain of British cult mastermind Nicholas Roeg. The mind behind such classics such as Performance, The Man Who Fell to Earth and Don’t Look Now gives a rare look behind the curtain in Nothing As It Seems: The Films of Nicolas Roeg.
Arrow launches several new Series as the month progresses.
Throughout the month, several new series will be released by Arrow. Starting with Re-Animated: The Jeffrey Combs Collection, this series will enter the mind of cult icon Jeffrey Combs and his masterful characterization techniques through the years. Spanning from his paternal performance in Castle Freak to his mystical portrayal in Doctor Mordrid, this series shines a light on a bright star in cult horror and drops March 3rd. Following up with a look into long standing genre icon on March 10th, Arrow will explore the collection of Nico Mastorakis: Hellas Raiser. Mastorakis has been churning out gory thrillers for 50 years, and the Greek icon now gets an exclusive look into his work ranging across many genres, and including aquatic horror Bloodtide, bloody slasher The Wind and the tech heavy mindbender .com for Murder. Later in the month Arrow will close out with two final series Death By Stereo and Horror Movie Survival Guide Selects.
Dropping on March 17th, Arrow is turning the volume up to the max and blasting some audio based shorts and features with their series Death By Stereo. Ranging from weaponizing sound in LFO to a female punk band locked in a cage in Blood Dolls, these titles will make the audience face the music and include some toe-tapping musical numbers and even a fun singalong along the way. The final series ropes in our friendly podcast Horror Movie Survival Guide and hosts Julia Marchese and Teri Gamble, who will put their knowledge to the test by selecting many of their favorites from the Arrow archives for Horror Movie Survival Guide Selects.
In the middle of the month, Arrow will also be including a trio of documentaries focused on our favorite cult classics and the ethos behind them, who created them and their impact in the genre. Pop in for many never before seen looks into Barbarella starring Jane Fonda in Barbarella Forever!, a postmortem look into the life and work of prominent British filmmaker Mike Hodges in Mike Hodges: A Film-Maker’s Life and a documentary focused on the creation of the gory and heavy cult classic The Mutilator in Fall Breakers: The Making of The Mutilator. These are all dropping on March 17th.
Lastly, Arrow will be taking us into the action-packed world of Sammo Hung for our final KO punch of March. The powerful and acclaimed action choreographer’s great work Knockabout from the late 70’s paved the way for the eclectic mix of flurries of fists and humor that still resonates today with audiences. See where it all began and take a journey back to see this powerful combo of jokes and jabs that surged the genre forward on March 28th.
