The Last Drive-In drops a new promo for its fifth season on Shudder
By Carla Davis
Bust out your Lone Star and put on that Joe Bob t-shirt, because season five of The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs is making its debut next week on Shudder! It’s the perfect addition to Shudder’s Halfway to Halloween celebration.
If you are a current fan of The Last Drive-In (as so many of us are), you know what format the series follows: Joe Bob, Darcy the Mail Girl, Yuki, John Brennan and the rest of The Last Drive-In crew gather together for a double-feature and some on-set shenanigans. There will probably be some special guests popping up throughout the season, Joe Bob will go off on some crazy rants, and Darcy will bust out some awesome cosplay for each episode.
But one of the great things about The Last Drive-In is that it always includes some surprises and swerves. Will the featured films be well-known drive-in fare, like past features The Changeling and Black Christmas? Will they be controversial, like Cannibal Holocaust or Nekromantic?
I don’t know about you, but I have been pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed some of the weirder films chosen by Joe Bob. I would never have watched Tammy and the T-Rex or The Baby on my own, but I gave them a shot and was not disappointed. There is also something very special about the Mutant camaraderie that makes those Friday nights feel all warm and fuzzy, even if the featured films include a very high ick factor. For those who don’t know, we fans of The Last Drive-In refer to our little family as “Drive-In Mutants.”
Season five of The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs will premiere on Shudder Friday, April 21, 9:00 p.m. ET.
Usually, episodes are available to stream on demand by the following Sunday.
This season is going to be a bit different than seasons one through five. It’s going to be split into two parts, so there will be a brief hiatus about halfway into the season. And, as always, we don’t know what films will be shown.
Keep an eye on social media, because JB is likely to throw out a clue or two in the next week! In the meantime, you can watch the new promo below. As Joe Bob says, he is ready to “pummel your eye holes!”
