When the night shift starts, the nightmare begins at Freddy Fazbear’s place. The movie adaptation of hit horror video game Five Nights at Freddy’s just got a new trailer.

Co-written by original game creator Scott Cawthon and produced by noted horror studio Blumhouse Productions, the new trailer for Five Nights at Freddy’s shows us more about troubled security guard and single father Mike Schmidt, as well as his daughter Abby.

Jason Blum, head of Blumhouse, expressed his own excitement at the forthcoming release in a recent tweet.

Mike takes the night shift at the decrepit Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza out of desperation, to be able to provide for his daughter. But the gristly surprise of the possessed animatronic mascots await.

Turns out the five mascots have murderous plans, not only trying to kill Mike but also kidnapping Abby for their own nefarious purposes.

Veteran horror gamers will of course be familiar with the spooky details in the Freddy’s games  mythos, including how the four animatronic mascots, Freddy Fazbear, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy the Pirate, come alive by midnight.

The five then kill anyone that is still within the resto premises after midnight, their victim of choice being children to devour as fuel for their supernatural life.

Needless to say, that cushy security job night shift from 12AM to 6AM in the ad just became a game of terrifying survival. A true hard grind for a five night-work week, in reality.

Josh Hutcherson, who starred as Peeta Mellark in The Hunger Games, stars as embattled night guard Mike Schmidt in Five Nights at Freddy’s. Piper Rubio, from Disney’s Crater plays his young daughter Abby.

Under the capable direction of Emma Tammi, who also directed the excellent 1800s frontier supernatural thriller The Wind, this cult game classic will now gain a wider audience of horror fans.

The film’s iconic animatronic characters were created by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop, who also made the creature effects for Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio and 2019’s The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance.

Five Nights at Freddy’s is set for a theatrical release from Universal Pictures on October 27 and will be available to stream on Peacock on the same date.
