Brand new trailer released for Disney’s Haunted Mansion film
By Carla Davis
Disney’s release of the new Haunted Mansion film is right around the corner, and a brand spanking new trailer was just released. I am pretty sure Disney expects the upcoming film, based on the theme parks’ popular Haunted Mansion ride, to do very well at the box office, but it doesn’t hurt to keep fans intrigued and excited.
Disney made a movie version of The Haunted Mansion back in 2003, and it starred Eddie Murphy as successful realtor Jim Evers, who brings his family to Gracey Manor. Once there, the family discovers the place is haunted. The Haunted Mansion also starred Marsha Thomason, Terrance Stamp, and Jennifer Tilly as Madame Leota, one of the most popular characters in the Haunted Mansion attraction. The film performed very well at the box office, so it’s somewhat surprising there was never a sequel.
In 2021, Disney released Muppets Haunted Mansion on Disney Plus, and viewers seemed to really like it. I myself thought it was a lot of fun, and found it to be an enjoyable addition to my Halloween viewing.
The upcoming Haunted Mansion reboot will release in theaters on July 28.
It stars Rosario Dawson, who moves into a “strangely affordable” New Orleans mansion with her young son (played by Chase Dillon). Soon enough, they start to experience haunting activity, and call in a priest (Owen Wilson) to aid him in ridding the mansion of its many ghosts. He calls in a ghost hunter (LaKeith Stanfield of Get Out fame), a historian (Danny DeVito) and a psychic (Tiffany Haddish) to help.
Jamie Lee Curtis appears as Madame Leota and Jared Leto is The Hatbox Ghost. Also appearing in Haunted Mansion are Winona Ryder and Dan Levy, so the cast is strong.
Director Justin Simien considers himself a “lifelong fan” of the theme park attraction, and says:
"“Our team has worked tirelessly to create a scary, funny and cinematic otherworldly adventure for both new and die-hard fans to enjoy! I can’t wait for audiences to experience this big screen version of the iconic Disney attraction.“"
