Happy Halloween! Contestants announced for Dragula season five
By Carla Davis
Shudder has a great Halloween gift for fans of The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula – season five will begin this month, on a very special date.
Shudder has revealed the cast for Dragula, which will run for ten episodes, with a new episode premiering each week on Tuesdays. The first episode will air on “the big night” of Halloween on Shudder and AMC+.
The Boulets and Shudder promise the new season will be:
"“…the biggest and baddest yet, boasting a brand-new state-of-the-art set, an army of new talented crew members, the most diverse cast in the show’s history, and the Boulet Brothers’ themselves taking over as the series’ directors.”"
Here’s a little bit of info on the season five cast members for The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula:
Anna Phylactic – Anna hails from Manchester, England, where she has many years of experience with drag. She is describes as possessing a “fearless fervor.”
Blackberri’s home base is Houston Texas, where she is known as “The Bearded Beauty.” Her talents include acting, comedy, performance and makeup skills, which should serve her well in her pursuit of the Dragula crown.
Cynthia Doll entertains Kansas City, Missouri with her horror-inspired sense of fashion, and while she is not one to start trouble, she certainly has no trouble ending it!
Fantasia Royale Gaga has over twenty years of experience, and is considered an icon in the Miami drag scene. She is known for a beautiful face and a knock-out body.
Jarvis Hammer is Drag King who practices his art in Atlanta, Georgia. Stunning to look at, Jarvis is also considered the king of fab performances, which include a heavy dose of comedy – appropriate, since he has a background stand-up.
Jay Kay hails from Brooklyn, New York, and describes themselves as “a noxious mix of camp, gender blending and a whole lot of punk rock personality.” They hope to be the most annoying competitor to ever be part of the Dragula family.
The new cast of Dragula even features a performer out of China
Niohuru X recently moved to the US from Tianjin, China. She hopes to pursue her dreams through use of her expertise in make-up and fashion, even without a lot of stage performance experience.
Onyx Ondyx describes herself as a freakshow showgirl, known for circus-style stunts that consistently entertain her fellow residents of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. With a high tolerance for pain, Onyx believes she is a shoe-in to become the next Drag Supermonster.
Orkgotic is yet another international performer on the new season of Dragula. Hailing from Buenos Aires, Argentina, he is visiting the US for the first time to show off his innovative use of prosthetics in his pursuit of the crown.
Satanna entertains Los Angeles regularly with her flawless makeup skills and quick (some would say bit**y) tongue. She promises to verbally destroy any competitor who gets in her way…but, she also promises to look good doing it.
Throb Zombie believes their combination of Drag Queen and King skills will make them the newest Supermonster. They use both punk rock vibes and burlesque skills to keep the residents of Boston thrilled and entertained.
The Boulet Brothers, Drac and Swan proclaim the new cast to be “one of the most dynamic, diverse, exciting casts” that have ever graced the series.
Joining the judges panel for Dragula season five are writer/director Mike Flanagan (The Haunting of Hill House), actor David Dastmalchian (The Boogeyman), writer/director Kevin Smith (Tusk), author Tananarive Due, musician Jazmin Bean and actor Matthew Lillard (Scream).
Dragula season three winner Landon Cider will be the first recurring judge on Dragula, and we are also promised appearances from former competitors Victoria Elizabeth Black, Dahli and Koco Caine.
We know that October 31 is a busy night for most of us, but make sure you take some time to enjoy the first episode of The Boulet Brothers Dragula season five.
