The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula has been renewed for a sixth season on Shudder
By Carla Davis
The fifth season of The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula is currently going strong on Shudder, where it ranks as one of the top most-watched series. With four episodes remaining in the current season, it was announced that the reality competition show will definitely be returning to Shudder for a sixth season.
Although The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula will be on hiatus December 26 and January 2, the finale will air on January 16. Fans have been thrilled with the fifth season so far, and we are waiting anxiously to see which of the remaining “uglies” will win the Dragula crown.
Dracmorda and Swanthula stated that they were thrilled at the news, and said:
"“With the sixth season, we plan on leaning into this bold, new direction even further and truly pushing the creative limits of the show to new heights.”"
AMC Networks and Shudder are also excited about continuing the relationship they have with the Boulet Brothers.
The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula has stepped things up this season
The current season boasted a brand new set, along with a very diverse cast, and the Boulet Brothers took over as directors. The guest judges have included the likes of horror writer/director Mike Flanagan (The Fall of the House of Usher), author Tananarive Due, actor David Dastmalchian (The Boogeyman), Scream’s Matthew Lillard and musician/makeup artist Jazmin Bean.
Unlike most drag competitions, Dragula focuses on the Boulets’ pillars: Drag, Filth, Horror and Glamour. The challenges this season have included a play on the iconic Garbage Pail Kids, ghosts at a hotel and alien sex workers. There has been an ample amount of gorgeousness and gag-worthy special effects, and, as always, there is plenty of drama amongst the competitors. This is a salty crew!
They are also very culturally diverse this time around; Niohuru X hales from China, Orkgotik is from Argentina, and Anna Phylactic calls Manchester, United Kingdom their home.
It seems like the ante has also been upped where the extermination challenges are concerned. Two competitors had to transfer maggots from one bucket to another using only their mouths, and in another challenge, the lowest scoring competitors were tied to a bed, then covered with cheese and live rats. Ugh!
This has been a great year and a half for the Boulet Brothers and Shudder. Drac and Swan appeared as guests on an episode of The Last Drive-In, The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula: Titans entered the arena as a spinoff series, The Boulet Brothers’ Halfway to Halloween TV variety special was released, and Titans had a successful world tour.
It seems like the sky is the limit right now for the Boulet Brothers!
