The fifth season of The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula has been great so far, and we are now down to the final five.  **The remainder of this article includes major spoilers for the series.

With a few volatile exceptions, this particular group of contestants has seemed to get along pretty well, and not hold grudges. The biggest exception was, of course Jay Kay, who seemed at times to be their own worst enemy. Jay Kay was passionate, and got into some verbal altercations with Orkgotik and Cynthia Doll…but their passion didn’t seem to bleed over into the performance challenges.

Throb Zombie seems to be the best at keeping friendship and competition separate. They are genuinely friendly with the other contestants, even helping Niohuru X master a masculine stance (which ultimately ended up in Niohuru winning the challenge). But, Throb also is pragmatic about how important it is to keep their head in the game, always remembering that it’s a competition. And it’s a competition Throb wants to win.

In my opinion, here is the order in which I personally think the remaining contestants will go home:

Fantasia Royal Gaga – Fantasia has gotten some pretty strong critiques in her last few competitions. In my opinion, the snake costume in the blacklight challenge was a big fail. While her blacklight makeup was good, she did not move like a snake, and the tail was pretty bad. It was disconnecting from the rest of the body, and her very human feet were showing. I think she will be the next to go.

Blackberri – While Blackberri’s costumes and makeup are flawless, they are also a little too “pretty” for her to achieve supermonster stardom. She’s a little too clean to achieve the “filth” demanded of Dragula contestants. I like Blackberri a lot, but I don’t think this is her time.

Orkgotik – Boy, does Orkgotik have most of the Dragula pillars down pat! He definitely embodies the filth and horror, but he still hasn’t completely nailed glamour. His makeup is also beginning to be predictable. While wrapping your head up in plastic and covering it with makeup is a bit innovative, it also seems to be overused. So, unless Orkgotik can surprise the judges, I don’t think he will win the Dragula crown.

Niohuru X – Honestly, Niohuru may actually win. She really bowled me (and the judges) over with her switch to musclebound masculinity in the blacklight challenge, especially considering the fact that she usually appears ultra-femme. That was a totally different look for her, so she has shown her diversity. I wouldn’t really be mad if she won.

Throb Zombie – I think Throb will win – again, it wouldn’t hurt me if it’s Hiohuru, but I think Throb’s performance has been topnotch. Their makeup is always striking, their costumes are fantastic, and they know how to perform onstage. I was especially blown away by the Trash Can Kids look and the blacklight performance. For the latter, Throb used the blacklight makeup on their face, their costume, even the inside of the costume jacket. The only thing that may keep them from winning is their reliance on props, which the Boulets have noted repeatedly. When a prop doesn’t perform as expected, it’s a bit of a letdown.

After next week’s episode, The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula will be on hiatus until after the holidays, so that gives fans who haven’t watched a chance to catch up on the drama, the craziness and the spectacular looks and performances.
