Wednesday season 2 is officially just a few months away, and we've seen the exciting first teaser for what's to come. Jenna Ortega and Tim Burton return to give us a much darker new season that aims to embrace its horror roots.

Ortega has already teased how the second season will cut out the romantic aspects from season 1 in favor of amping up the horror. We'll also see a lot more horror movie references this time around. The latest teaser has given us a taste of what to expect, featuring several scary moments hinting at how frightening the new season will be when it debuts.

Pugsley's new power

Like his sister before him, Pugsley will begin his own adventure at Nevermore Academy in season 2, and he also has supernatural abilities. A brief clip in the teaser shows him zapping a road sign with his electric powers. It'll be interesting to see what Pugsley can bring to the table this season regarding his zapping skills. Could he be manipulated to turn against Wednesday at some point?

Creepy dolls

One of the teaser's most unsettling scenes features Wednesday tied to a chair, surrounded by a bunch of creepy dolls at a dinner table. Later, we see Wednesday gift one of the dolls to her roommate, Enid, and it's even more bizarre at that moment since Wednesday informs her that the doll's hair is made from real human hair.

Dolls are notoriously creepy. From Chucky to Annabelle, they frequent the horror genre as there is something very unnerving about a doll's glassy eyes blinking at you. It looks like Wednesday season 2 will use that to full effect.

More murder

Wednesday starts the teaser by dumping out a bag of weapons in front of security at what appears to be an airport, so it's not much of a surprise when we later see the silhouette of someone getting murdered in the dark. As Wednesday herself teases, she already knows where the bodies are buried. And Ortega has previously teased that this season will include an episode dedicated to slasher movies.

The Hyde returns

Tyler was revealed to be the mutated monster known as the Hyde, one of the main villains from the first season. At the end of season 1, Tyler was taken away from Nevermore and locked up in a facility. The new teaser shows him in a cell with a strange collar around his neck.

But another scene features Hyde running down a dark hallway and stopping in front of Wednesday. Does Tyler escape captivity? Does Wednesday help him? Or maybe the whole thing is a dream sequence of some kind. Either way, the Hyde's creature design continues to be super creepy.

Dark family secrets

During the teaser, there is a brief Morticia voiceover where she tells Wednesday about the family's "dark secrets" and the fact that those "secrets can have deadly consequences."

Other scary images show a journal opened to a page with a drawing of a girl bleeding from the eyes. Wednesday herself is also shown bleeding from her eyes several times throughout the teaser. The secrets Morticia refers to likely have something to do with her mother and Wednesday's grandmother, Hester Frump (Joanna Lumley).

Wednesday season 2 part 1 premieres on August 6 and part 2 airs on September 3.
