Happy Wednesday to Wednesday fans! After years of waiting, Netflix has finally shared the first official teaser for the highly anticipated sophomore season of the coming-of-age supernatural drama starring Jenna Ortega in the titular role—and a release date! Admittedly, however, fans might be a little upset when they learn that Netflix is dividing the upcoming season into two parts, a trend that has been divisive since its onset.
As 1428 Elm previously reported, the show's second season will forgo the teen drama trappings of season 1, removing the romance and focusing more heavily on the darker, horror aspects of the story.
We get a glimpse of that in the new teaser, which starts with Wednesday hitting a security hold-up as she empties her bags full of weapons in front of TSA. There are also creepy dolls, monsters, murder, and plenty of mayhem to come.

Wednesday season 2 will be split into two parts
Wednesday season 2 is following in the footsteps of other popular Netflix series by being divided into two parts. The first half of the season will debut on August 6 and the rest on September 3.
Each half will consist of four episodes, making season 2 eight episodes in total. Not everyone is a fan of when Netflix splits its shows up into separate volumes, as the streamer has done in the past with Stranger Things, You, Outer Banks, and others.
It is annoying, but it makes sense from a business perspective that Netflix would want to give subscribers incentive to keep their subscription for an additional month, rather than signing up for just one to binge it all in one sitting and then cancel. That said, a lot of that could be solved if Netflix would just start doing weekly releases, but I digress.
What we know about season 2
The new season will be a change of pace for every character involved, especially Wednesday, who is willingly choosing to return to the same school for the first time! We will return to Nevermore Academy with Wednesday and Enid (Emma Myers) rooming together again.
Bianca (Joy Sunday), Tyler (Hunter Doohan), and Wednesday's lovable pal Thing (Victor Dorobantu) are also all returning. Tyler was unmasked as the monstrous Hyde in the first season, and the teaser indicates that he is now being held inside a creepy facility of some sort.
At home, Wednesday's family is back, including Pugsley (Isaac Ordonez), who will embark on his own Nevermore journey this season. Catherine Zeta-Jones and Luis Guzmán are back as Wednesday's loving parents, Morticia and Gomez Addams.
Show creator Alfred Gough has teased that season 2 will "expand its scope," allowing us to learn more about different Addams' family members, such as introducing Joanna Lumley as Morticia's mother, Hester Frump. Fred Armisen will also reprise his role as Uncle Fester, and he'll have more to do in season 2!
Other new characters include Steve Buscemi as Principal Dort, stepping in for Principal Weems (Gwendoline Christie), who died in the season 1 finale.
Wednesday season 2 part 1 debuts on August 6, followed by part 2 on September 3.
