What's the latest on A Quiet Place Part III?

A Quiet Place: Day One was not the official end to the trilogy, another A Quiet Place is still in development.

One of last year's most critically acclaimed and financially successful horror movie was A Quiet Place: Day One, starring Lupita Nyong'o and Joseph Quinn. A follow-up to the 2020 film A Quiet Place Part II, Day One grossed over $261 million on a $67 million budget, particularly impressive because it is the first film in the franchise not to feature the Abbott family.

But you'd be mistaken if you thought the prequel film was the stand-in for a third movie in the franchise started by the 2018 film directed by John Krasinski. A Quiet Place Part III is still happening, as made clear by franchise producer Brad Fuller.

Speaking to The Direct during the recent South by Southwest film festival (SXSW), Fuller clarified that "Day One is not A Quiet Place 3, just to be clear," adding that work on third movie in the main trilogy was in active development.

All of the movies within the franchise have been successful thus far, so the fact the third movie got delayed at all was a surprise. But Fuller said it's mainly due to John Krasinski's busy schedule. Krasinski directed, starred, and co-wrote the first movie and then returned to write and direct its sequel (along with returning to star in a smaller capacity).

The actor has become quite "in-demand" since 2018, so that's why the films have taken some time to make. It also explains why the producers chose to pivot to the prequel movie with Pig director Michael Sarnoski.

That said, A Quiet Place Part III is still a priority for Paramount Pictures. It was announced back in 2022, after Part II released in theaters.

Fuller added that Krasinski is currently making a movie, but after that, they're hopeful he'll return to work on the threequel. The producer said that he hopes "there's even more Quiet Place movies beyond that," which seems likely!

But I do have to wonder how long it might be before Krasinski has time again as he was recently announced to be starring in the Prime Video serial killer thriller series Silent River alongside Matthew Rhys. He's also expected to return for a new Jack Ryan film for Amazon.

All three of A Quiet Place movies are now streaming on Paramount+.
