The Parenting (Max, March 13)

- Writer: Kent Sublette
- Cast: Nik Dodani, Brandon Flynn, Parker Posey, Vivian Bang, Lisa Kudrow, Dean Norris, Brian Cox, and Edie Falco
The Skeleton Twins director Craig Johnson is back with his newest movie, a horror comedy about a family getaway gone wrong. Rohan and Josh are excited to host their respective families for a vacation, having rented out a luxurious country house for the gathering.
Unbeknownst to the guests, the house is already inhabited by a 400-year-old poltergeist who isn't thrilled with the company, leading to the possession of Brian Cox's character Gerald. The Parenting features several notable stars such as Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Parker Posey, Dean Norris, and Edie Falco. During an interview with FearHQ, Johnson and writer Kent Sublette got to chat about the film and teased that Cox's role in The Parenting is one of his most fun to date.

Control Freak (Hulu, March 13)
The latest short-film-turned-feature for Hulu is Control Freak, based on the previous short film of the same name once released as part of a Huluween special. Star Wars alum Kelly Marie Tran stars in this psychological horror film centering on a motivational speaker contending with a terrifying parasitic demon from her homeland.
Using folklore and mental illness as its touchstones to create meaningful scares, Control Freak is a surprisingly tense and entertaining film. It stands out from some of Hulu's other horror originals and is one to watch if you're looking for something terrifying to check out this week.
Borderline (VOD, March 14)
- Writer/Director: Jimmy Warden
- Cast: Samara Weaving, Ray Nicholson, Jimmie Fails, Alba Baptista, and Eric Dane
Beloved scream queen Samara Weaving plays a 1990s pop star named Sofia in this upcoming thriller film. Sofia finds herself antagonized and harassed by a super-fan by the name of Duerson (Ray Nicholson), who one day breaks into her house out of sheer desperation to be close to her. Duerson's obsession has become so extreme that he even believes he and Sofia are destined to marry and attempts to arrange the perfect wedding for his unwilling bride.

Opus (Limited Theaters, March 14)

The first A24 horror movie of the year stars Ayo Edebiri as a writer who receives a rare invitation to the enigmatic and super-reclusive pop star's home after he disappeared from the public eye 30 years prior. She finds herself among a group of other journalists and sycophants, all vying for the celebrity's attention until they realize they've been drawn in as part of his twisted scheming.

Long Bright River (Peacock, March 13)
- Cast: Amanda Seyfried, Ashleigh Cummings, Callum Vinson, and John Doman

Peacock's adaptation of Liz Moore's crime drama novel features Amanda Seyfried as Philly beat cop Mickey Fitzpatrick, tasked with patrolling a neighborhood hit hard by the opioid crisis, a problem she has a personal attachment to due to her sister being an addict. When Mickey begins investigating a series of murders, she realizes that she might share a more personal connection to the case than she initially expected. All eight episodes will be released on the same day.

Adolescence (Netflix, March 13)

Another dark crime drama coming out this week is the four-part Netflix series Adolescence about a 13-year-old boy accused of murdering his classmate.
