Kathryn Newton is shining her scream queen crown as we speak, preparing to join Samara Weaving in the upcoming Ready or Not sequel!
Deadline reports that the actress is set to re-team with Radio Silence duo Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who directed Newton previously in last year's vampire horror film Abigail. Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett also directed Ready or Not and other popular recent horror movies like Scream 5 and Scream 6.
Released in 2019, the first Ready or Not was an absolute blast of a movie. It did very well at the box office, grossing over $57.6 million on a $6 million budget and it was heavily praised by critics and audiences alike. Ready or Not helped catapult Weaving into the realm of modern-day scream queens and she's appeared in several since (including getting the coveted opening kill in Scream 6). Next she'll star in the comedy thriller Borderline with Ray Nicholson.
As for the Ready or Not sequel, we don't have much information to share on the plot details or what to expect from Newton's character just yet. The first movie followed Weaving's character Grace during the worst possible wedding night ever. After marrying into the wealthy Le Domas family, Grace learns that they must play a murderous game of Hide-and-Seek as part of a devilish pact made by a family ancestor. She narrowly survives in the end, and the remaining Le Domas survivors, having failed to fulfill their part of the bargain, die.
Along with Weaving, Ready or Not 2 will see Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett direct again with original writers Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy also returning.
With Newton joining Ready or Not 2, some fans are hoping that her Abigail co-star Melissa Barrera might also join the cast. Barrera has worked with Radio Silence multiple times now between Abigail and both Scream movies. She'd be a fun addition to the cast.
Besides Abigail and Lisa Frankenstein, Newton has starred in several other horror projects like the Netflix series The Society, Supernatural, and Freaky.
