It seems we've reached the end of the road, Agatha All Along fans. The final two episodes of the hit dark fantasy series have dropped on Disney+, and what an epic conclusion to an amazing Marvel miniseries. Watch out, Wandavision. I'd say you got some competition!
Spoilers ahead from Agatha All Along episode 8.
In the penultimate episode titled "Follow Me My Friend/To Glory at the End," so much happens. We find out that Alice and Lilia are really dead. Remember, Alice lost her life in episode 5 after Agatha absorbed all her power and drained her life force. Lilia met her demise in episode 7 when she opted to sacrifice herself for the coven by remaining behind after the trial to defeat the Salem Seven. In episode 8, Rio aka Death, confirms their deaths when talking to Agatha on The Road.
With just Agatha, Billy, and Jen left, they head off to finish the last trial. The final trial sees Jen regain her powers after she conducts an unbinding ritual on Agatha. Oh yeah, we find out in this episode that Agatha was the one who bound her. Go figure! After getting her powers back, Jen suddenly disappears.
Next up is Billy, who, with the help of Agatha, is able to find a vacant body for his missing brother Tommy to transfer into. He then suddenly disappears. Just as it appears that Agatha is scot-free, she runs into Rio after finishing the trial and leaving through the exit off the Road. Now she's back in Westview, standing in her front yard. Rio sits on top of Agatha's house, ready to collect what she is due. She and Agatha had a deal where Agatha would deliver Billy to her, and then she would leave her alone for good. But Agatha went back on their deal, so now Rio is ready to take her instead.
Lucky for Agatha, Billy appears in the nick of time and gives her some of his powers for her to fight back against Rio. But obviously, you can't defeat Death, so they give up after a short brawl. In the end, Agatha gives in to Rio. After sharing a passionate kiss with her, Agatha falls to the ground and instantly becomes drained of her life force. A bunch of colorful flowers then begin to form where her body lies.
Billy returns to his home in Eastview and looks around his bedroom, noticing that he has a lot of objects around his room that tie back to the Witches' Road. After putting two and two together, he realizes that he was behind the Witches' Road all along. Dun dun duuun!
Spoilers from Agatha All Along episode 9 ahead.
The final episode of Agatha All Along is all about Agatha's backstory
In episode 9 titled "Maiden Mother Crone," we're taken back to 1750, where we see a young Agatha give birth to a baby boy she names Nicholas Scratch in the woods. But right before she gives birth, a young Rio/Death shows up and warns her that one day, she'll return to collect him.
For six years, Agatha spends her time traveling around the woods with Nicholas, killing witches to "survive." At least, that's what she tells Nicholas. One night, Rio appears while Agatha and Nicholas are sleeping. Nicholas wakes up out of his sleep, and Rio beckons for him to go with her. Agatha then wakes up the next morning to discover that Nicholas is dead.
She creates a burial spot for him while singing a much sadder version of The Ballad of the Witches’ Road. She and Nicholas had come up with the original version. Another witch suddenly appears after hearing her sing the Ballad and asks Agatha if she can take her to the Witches' Road. But we soon find out that the Witches' Road doesn't actually exist.
After hearing the witch's request, Agatha saw it as her next potential con, and for many centuries, she would form covens and trick them into thinking that the Witches' Road exists, only to drain them of their power and kill them all in the end. That was her plan all along when she formed the coven with Jen, Lilia, Alice, and Sharon in episode 2, but her plan backfired when Billy managed to conjure a real Witches’ Road.
Is Agatha really dead in Agatha All Along?
Unfortunately, it appears that Agatha is really dead. After learning her backstory, we're taken back to the present time in Billy's room, where Billy finds out he's behind the Witches' Road. Agatha, in ghost form, suddenly appears in the room, and they have an intense yet emotional conversation.
Billy blames himself for being the reason why Alice, Lilia, and Sharon died since he made the Witches' Road real, but Agatha tries to comfort him in her own way by telling him that at least Jen survived. The episode then cuts to Jen coming up from underground. She activates her powers before flying away into the sunset.
Done with Agatha's shenanigans, Billy heads to Agatha's house and then down to her basement where the portal to the Witches' Road still exists. Of course, Agatha follows him. Billy tries to get rid of her permanently by performing a banishment spell, but it doesn't work. He asks Agatha why the spell won't work, and she yells to him, "Because I can't face him!" She's talking about her son Nicholas.
After hearing this, Billy changes his mind about wanting to banish Agatha to the afterlife. He even tries to comfort her by saying that he believes Nicholas will forgive her for whatever she did. They come to an understanding before deciding to join forces to find Tommy. After Billy closes the portal to the Witches' Road, he flings open the door to Agatha's basement, and they walk towards it to exit.
