The teaser trailer for Final Destination: Bloodlines dropped just earlier this week, and it’s already got fans buzzing with excitement. The movie has been in talks for quite some time, and we finally get another installment 14 years later. The trailer gives away very little besides teasing another ridiculous death, but it’s enough to get us pumped up for the movie's release this May.
The Final Destination franchise is one you either love or hate. No one can deny the absurdity of their existence, but that doesn't stop them from being highly entertaining films. A big part of the fun is trying to guess how each character will meet their untimely demise. The sixth installment will surely deliver more shocking twists and keep fans on the edge of their seats as death claims its next victims.
In this article, we shared a list of some of the best Final Destination movies to watch before Final Destination: Bloodlines, as well as the ones you can probably skip out on.
Final Destination (2000)
- Verdict: Watch
- Cast: Ali Larter, Tony Todd, Devon Sawa, Alex Browning, Carter Horton, Billy Hitchcock, Valerie Lewton, Terry Chaney, and Tod Waggner
- Where to watch: Max
Final Destination is the first installment and arguably the best. The movie sets the ground rules that all of the others follow and lays out how death's design works. The supernatural horror film is about a group of students about to board a plane for a school trip. Alex suddenly gets a detailed vision of the aircraft exploding, killing everyone on board. He warns a select few that follow him off the plane, but death follows them even after their harrowing escape. Final Destination is iconic, and it kickstarted the franchise that has scarred millions of people from daily tasks.
Final Destination 2 (2003)
- Verdict: Skip
- Cast: Ali Larter, A.J. Cook, Michael Landes, Tony Todd, Keegan Connor, Noel Fisher, Sarah Carter, David Paetkau, and Justina Machado
- Where to watch: Max
Final Destination 2 is a skip in my personal opinion. Now, I know this is a lot of people's favorite in the franchise, but I find it to be rather boring. The kills are a little too forgettable (apart from the logs on the semi), and I find it hard to root for the characters. The movie follows the same template as all the rest: a person has a vision, all hell breaks loose, they have to save everyone's lives, and death's design kills them all.
Final Destination 3 (2006)
- Verdict: Watch
- Cast: Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Ryan Merriman, Amanda Crew, Crystal Lowe, Kris Lemche, Chelan Simmons, Texas Battle, Tony Todd, and Alexz Johnson
- Where to watch: Max
Final Destination 3 is my favorite out of all the films. This is the only one where I actually root for the main character and hope they can escape the pattern. Again, the horror flick follows the same template, but I find the kills to be quite satisfying and creative. This movie has ruined rollercoasters and tanning beds for me forever.
The Final Destination (2009)
- Verdict: Skip
- Cast: Bobby Campo, Nick Zano, Shantel VanSanten, Haley Webb, Krista Allen, Myketi Williamson, Stephanie Honoré, Andrew Fiscella, and Justin Welborn
- Where to watch: Max
The title of this installment is a little different from the rest because it was intended to be the last movie of the franchise. Obviously, that didn't happen because these movies have quite the cult following. The Final Destination is another skip for me as well. I have similar issues with this movie as I do with the second. Like the second film, it suffers from unlikeable characters, and I didn't love the setting of the original disaster either. It’s also the only entry without a Tony Todd appearance, which is a definite loss. But I will say that some of the kills are extremely entertaining and gruesome.
Final Destination 5 (2011)
- Verdict: Watch
- Cast: Jaqueline Maclnnes Wood, Tony Todd, Miles Fisher, Emma Bell, Nicholas D’Agosto, Devon Sawa, Candice hooper, Chasty Ballesteros, Arlen Escarpeta
- Where to watch: Max
The actual final installment (or so we thought) was a surprisingly decent movie. The deaths in Final Destination 5 are pretty memorable and nothing short of brutal. I'm still not a fan of the original disaster, but the movie makes up for it quickly and doesn't hold back. The best part of the film is the plot twist at the very end when it all ties back to the first Final Destination. Don't worry, I won't spoil it.
