Ready to be spooked? These must-watch horror movies and shows featuring Thatcher are sure to leave you on the edge of your seat!
Heretic (2024)
Let's start with her most recent horror project, the new horror thriller Heretic. This A24 movie is now showing in theaters and will most likely come to Max sometime after its theatrical run. As of Nov. 8, it holds a Tomatometer score of 94% on Rotten Tomatoes, meaning that it's generally liked by critics.
Thatcher and fellow actress Chloe East play Sister Barnes and Sister Paxton in the film, two young missionaries of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, who go around knocking on the doors of different houses preaching their faith. But things take a dark turn when they knock on the door of an Englishman named Mr. Reed, who invites them into his home.
Soon after entering his home, Sister Barnes and Sister Paxton realize that they've been tricked. Mr. Reed traps them in the house, and they must find a way to escape. Hugh Grant joins Thatcher and East in the cast as Mr. Reed.
MaXXXine (2024)
Another horror project of Thatcher's that came out this year is Ti West's slasher MaXXXine aka the last film in his X trilogy. Look, I know she didn't have a big part in this horror flick, but she did her best with what she was given. So, I'd still say it's one of her best horror movies. You can watch this film on Max.
Taking place six years after the farmhouse massacre in X (2022), adult film star and aspiring actress Maxine Minx has now settled in Los Angeles, hoping to get her big break. But just as everything starts looking up for her, she becomes targeted by a mysterious killer known as the "Night Stalker."
Mia Goth stars as the protagonist, Maxine Minx. Thatcher plays the role of a FX artist. More of the cast includes Elizabeth Debicki, Moses Sumney, Michelle Monaghan, Bobby Cannavale, Halsey, Lily Collins, Giancarlo Esposito, and Kevin Bacon.
Yellowjackets (2021-)
Yellowjackets is hands down my favorite horror project of Thatcher's. She absolutely kills it as young Natalie (Nat), delivering a performance that's both nuanced and compelling. I can't wait to see her reprise her role in the upcoming Yellowjackets season 3, which is slated to premiere on Showtime sometime in 2025. The first two seasons are streaming on Paramount+.
The horror series centers on a high school girls' soccer team whose plane crashes in the remote Ontario wilderness, leaving them stranded with no way to call for help. The show takes place in two timelines. The storyline where the survivors of the plane crash are left stranded in the wilderness takes place in 1996. The other timeline takes place in 2021, where see the survivors now as adults, dealing with the long-term trauma from their experience in the wilderness.
The Exorcist (2016-2017)
So, this is another horror project where Thatcher didn't have a big role, but I still enjoyed the scenes that she did appear in. She played the role of a young Regan MacNeil in two episodes of the first season of the short-lived supernatural horror series. It was created by Jeremy Slater (The Umbrella Academy) and ran for two seasons on Fox from 2016-2017.
Based on the 1971 horror novel of the same name by William Peter Blatty, The Exorcist follows two priests, Father Tomas Ortega and Father Marcus Keane, as they investigate cases of terrifying demonic possession. Alfonso Herrera, Ben Daniels, Hannah Kasulka, Brianne Howey, Kurt Egyiawan, Alan Ruck, Geena Davis, Li Jun Li, Brianna Hildebrand, John Cho, Zuleikha Robinson, and others join Thatcher in the cast. You can watch this show on Tubi for free with ads or stream it on Hulu if you have a subscription.
The Boogeyman (2023)
Thatcher gave a really strong performance in this movie! The Boogeyman is a supernatural horror film helmed by Rob Savage (Host) from a screenplay co-written by Scott Beck, Bryan Woods, and Mark Heyman. It's based on one of Stephen King's memorable short stories, and revolves around the Harper family, particularly two sisters, Sadie and her younger sister Sawyer, who are struggling with the grief of losing their mother.
But their lives take a terrifying turn when a disturbed man visits their home and leaves with them a sinister, supernatural entity, known as the Boogeyman, who begins to haunt their home and torment them. Now, it's up to the two sisters and their father to confront the evil entity and put a stop to it once and for all. Thatcher starred in the leading role of Sadie, while Vivien Lyra Blair played Sawyer and Chris Messina portrayed their father, Will Harper.
Unfortunately, this film is not streaming anywhere at the moment. The only way you can watch it is by renting or purchasing it on digital platforms such as Amazon Prime Video, Google Play, Fandango at Home, etc.
