Bring Her Back among 3 new horror movies releasing this week (May 26)

Bring Her Back
Bring Her Back | A24

Somehow we've already reached the end of May and look forward to the coming month of June along with the summer season. A24 has saved one of their best horror films of the year for this week, with Bring Her Back finally getting a theatrical release this Friday. The movie from Talk to Me directors Danny and Michael Philippou has a 91% approval score on Rotten Tomatoes and has been terrifying critics at showings.

Apart from the A24 movie, this final week of May is relatively slow, though there is at least one indie horror movie coming to digital and demand along with a new Netflix true crime documentary. The following list outlines the four projects coming out between May 26 and June 1 that are likely to be of interest to horror enthusiasts! And keep in mind that since June starts on a Sunday this year, a Friday the 13th will soon be upon us.

Bring Her Back (May 30, Theaters)

Bring Her Back is one of this year's most anticipated horror films as the latest project from Talk to Me directors Michael and Danny Philippou. Just like in their previous film, the Philippous are exploring the real horror of grief through a terrifying story about a woman who cannot let go of her daughter. In some ways, Bring Her Back is a reversal of Talk to Me. Instead of centering on a teenager using a possessed hand to reach out to her late mother, a mother attempts a dark ritual to return her daughter to life.

Teenage Andy (Billy Barratt) and his younger sister Piper (Sora Wong) move in with Laura (Sally Hawkins) after their father dies. Piper and Andy realize quickly that something is amiss with their foster mother. Since her own daughter drowned in a tragic accident, Laura devotes her time to her foster children, but it soon becomes apparent that she has something in gruesome in mind.

Cold Case: The Tylenol Murders (May 26, Netflix)

While not a horror movie, true crime fans won't want to miss this Netflix documentary about the shocking case of the Tylenol murders, when seven people in Chicago died after taking Tylenol laced with cyanide in 1982. The investigation into these deaths sparked one of the most significant criminal investigations in the nation's history.

A three-part series, Cold Case: The Tylenol Murders digs into the case, inviting subjects to reexamine old evidence and present previously unheard testimonies. The impact of the 1982 incident cannot be understated as it led to an overhaul in the way our drugs our packaged. To this day, no suspect had been charged or convicted.

Pretty Boy (May 27, VOD)

A follow-up to the 2019 indie movie Blind, Pretty Boy will be released by Lionsgate on VOD this week. The story revolves around Faye, a blind Hollywood actress who gets abducted by a masked psycho dubbed "Pretty Boy." The killer takes her to a swinger's party on Valentine's Day and begins killing everyone in attendance as Faye tries to survive the night and escape.
