Companion director signs on to next horror film My Wife and I Bought a Ranch
Calling all horror buffs! A new horror film has just been announced to be in the works at Amazon MGM Studios, and it's called My Wife and I Bought a Ranch. We shared everything there is to know about this upcoming movie down below.
My Wife and I Bought a Ranch is described as a supernatural horror flick. It's based on the horror short story of the same name written by Matt Query that first appeared on Reddit. The story was later published as a novel that Query co-wrote with his brother Harrison Query, titled Old Country. If you would like to purchase this book, you can do so through Amazon as a paperback or eBook.
Drew Hancock, who many will recognize as the filmmaker behind the upcoming psychological thriller film Companion, has signed on to write and helm the My Wife and I Bought a Ranch movie adaptation. Hancock is best known for previously writing for shows such as Blue Mountain State, Suburgatory, Faking It and Mr. Pickles. He also co-created the comedy series My Dead Ex.
The producers backing this horror movie are 21 Laps, Atomic Monster, and Ground Control. These are well-known production companies known for being behind many horror projects. So, I'd say this film is in good hands.
The story centers around a young couple who decide to move to rural Idaho to live in their newly purchased dream house, only to discover soon that an evil entity roams the valley surrounding their home.
Here's the book's synopsis via Amazon:
"It’s the house of their dreams. Former marine Harry and his wife, Sasha, have packed up their life and their golden retriever, Dash, and fled the corporate rat race to live off the land in rural Idaho. Their breathtaking new home sits on more than forty acres of meadow, aspen trees, and pine forest in the Teton Valley. Even if their friends and family think it’s a strange choice for an up-and-coming pair of urban professionals, Harry and Sasha couldn’t be happier about the future they’re building, all by their lonesome.
That is, until their nearest neighbors, Dan and Lucy Steiner, come bearing more than housewarming gifts. Dan and Lucy warn Harry and Sasha of a malevolent spirit that lives in the valley, one that with every season will haunt them in fresh, ever-more-diabolical ways. At first, it seems like an old wives’ tale. But when spring arrives, so does the first evil manifestation, challenging everything Harry and Sasha thought they knew about the world."
This movie was initially in development at Netflix back in 2020, but it appears that the streaming giant eventually made the decision to pass on it. No actors have been attached to this film yet. But now that it has a writer/director, we're expecting to hear some cast announcements in the near future.
