In the era of remakes and reboots, we've gotten a lot of news about horror movies and their potential revivals. The cult classic and underrated gem Urban Legend is the next in line for a reboot. The 1998 slasher film was buried underneath the success of Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer, which have also been remade and rebooted.

What we know so far about the Urban Legend reboot

Gary Dauberman is set to produce after working on other horror films such as 2025's Until Dawn, 2017's It, as well as multiple movies in The Conjuring Universe. Alongside Dauberman is Neal Moritz, who produced the original Urban Legend and also I Know What You Did Last Summer. He is reportedly in discussions to potentially produce as well. Shanrah Wakefield, known for a few Lifetime movies, is writing the script. Additionally, Screen Gems is behind this new take.

The original Urban Legend was not extremely popular at the time, but gained fans over the years, earning it its cult classic title. Despite the film's low ratings, there were two more installments to the franchise. One sequel is titled Urban Legends: Final Cut, followed by another sequel titled Urban Legends: Bloody Mary.

Urban Legend is about a group of college students who begin to get picked off one by one by a mysterious killer set loose at Pendleton University. The unique thing about each kill is that it can be tied to a popular urban legend. The kills range from an ax murderer in the backseat to pop rocks and soda that make organs explode.

The original cast consisted of Jared Leto, Alicia Witt, Rebecca Gayheart, Robert Englund, Tara Reid, Loretta Devine, Joshua Jackson, Michael Rosenbaum, and Danielle Harris. None of the original cast has been confirmed to be reprising their roles.

The plot for the reboot is yet to be announced, but it is said to follow urban legends and how they can be passed down in the digital world. There is no shortage of insane urban legends to choose from, and the kills can be super creative in the modern era. We can't wait to see how everything comes together for this new version!
