As the cast and crew continue to work hard on the highly anticipated Yellowjackets season 3, a former star of the hit horror show has shared her thoughts on how she feels about her character's exit from the series. We're talking about Ella Purnell (Fallout, Sweetpea), who played teen Jackie Taylor in season 1 and some of season 2.
In the unpredictable world of Yellowjackets, where survival often teeters on the edge of the unimaginable, even the cast can be caught off guard. Talented actress Ella Purnell recently made a surprising confession at a recent Fan Expo in Chicago: she has yet to watch the harrowing, and most talked about episode of the series where her character meets a grisly end.
If you recall from the season 1 finale, teen Jackie meets her demise after being exiled by her teammates and forced to spend the night outside, where she succumbs to the freezing temperatures and dies of hypothermia.
While her death was hard to watch, that's not what really had fans talking. It was episode 2 of season 2, "Edible Complex," when the remaining survivors eventually resorted to cannibalism as their situation became increasingly desperate. Driven by extreme hunger, they end up eating Jackie's remains. This is the episode that Purnell claims she can't stomach to watch.
At the Fan Expo, a fan asked Purnell how she felt about her character being made a meal for the remaining survivors, and Purnell responded by saying that while she saw everything coming, she still felt it to be a "little bit disconcerting." She then goes on to say that she's going to tell everyone at the Fan Expo a little secret. The secret being that she still hasn't watched the cannibalism episode, saying that she doesn't know what it'll do to her mental health by watching it, so she'd rather not risk it.
Honestly, I personally understand why she wouldn't want to watch that episode or at least that scene. It was unsettling for me to watch, and I'm just a viewer. I can only imagine how it would feel if I were playing the character.
Purnell did a fantastic job playing teen Jackie Taylor, and we'll continue to support her in her future projects like Fallout season 2 and The Scurry. She can currently be watched in the dark comedy miniseries Sweetpea.
