Expedition X will be making a return to Discovery Channel in August. The series follows adventurer Josh Gates, along with scientist Phil Torres and paranormal researcher Heather Amaro as they dig into the strange and unknown.
Expedition X began life as a spinoff of Travel Channel series Expedition Unknown, and made its premiere on Discovery Channel in early 2020. Originally, Gates and Torres were joined by Jessica Chobot, but she left the series after the seventh season.
During the first season, the Mothman legend was explored, along with Mexico City’s Island of the Dolls, the rumored to be haunted Lake Lanier in Georgia and several other weird locations and events.
Future seasons saw the team investigating the Bell Witch, the Jersey Devil, Bigfoot, UFOs, the Ozark Howler, the Honey Island Swamp Monster and skin walkers. They also investigated haunted locations such as Eloise Asylum in Michigan and the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum in West Virginia.
Their most recent investigation was at Brushy Mountain State Penitentiary in Tennessee; that episode aired in March of this year.

Season 10 will premiere on Wednesday, August 20 at 9:00 p.m. ET
The two-part season premiere will feature part one on August 20, with part two debuting on August 27. The two-parter involves a trip into the ruins of Spike Island in County Cork, Ireland. Once a monastery, it was the largest prison in the British Empire at one time. It has been referred to as “Ireland’s Alcatraz.”
Spike Island once held close to 2,500 inmates, with the most dangerous held in an area known as The Punishment Block. It remained a prison until 2004, and visitors can now tour the place (including the Punishment Block).
Over the years, there have been claims of intense paranormal activity from visitors, workers and inmates, which makes sense. A lot of high emotions are stirred up in a location such as this, so haunting activity is more or less to be expected. During the Expedition X team’s exploration, they checked out the cellblocks and the tunnels.
In future episodes (which will air weekly), the team will be investigating the house that was the inspiration for the film The Conjuring, Massachusetts’ Bridgewater Triangle (where UFOs and Bigfoot have been reported), and Bangor, Maine. Bangor was once home to Stephen King, and may have influenced many of his terrifying stories.
Expedition X will also feature an area in Spain, where there have been accounts of zombies roaming around. As the press release reads: “Prepare for another season of unexplained encounters that challenge what we think we know and what we fear might be real.”
