The much-anticipated sixth installment of the iconic Final Destination horror franchise is now playing in theaters and dominating conversations everywhere. 14 years have passed since the last film shocked audiences with its twisted, creative deaths, and Final Destination Bloodlines raises the stakes with even more brutal kills and relentless suspense. It's no surprise that both critics and audiences alike are raving about this new supernatural horror. It proves that the Final Destination franchise still knows how to deliver chilling thrills like no other.

New Line Cinema, the production company behind the previous five Final Destination films, is also behind this new installment. Warner Bros. Pictures takes on the role of distributor. Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein, who are best known for writing and directing the sci-fi thriller Freaks, helmed Final Destination Bloodlines from a script penned by Guy Busick and Lori Evans Taylor.

The movie functions as both a prequel and a sequel. It acts as a prequel by exploring events that happened before the earlier films, while also moving forward to the present day, taking place after those previous stories. In 1969, a woman named Iris Campbell survives a devastating tower collapse after experiencing a terrifying premonition beforehand. Essentially, this made her the first known person to cheat Death’s design. But her survival comes at a cost, one that ripples through generations.

Decades later, her granddaughter Stefani Reyes begins experiencing disturbing visions of the same tragic tower collapse. As she digs into her family's past, she realizes that Death’s unyielding pursuit continues, and the malevolent force will stop at nothing to claim the lives that were never meant to be. Kaitlyn Santa Juana stars in the main role as Stefani. Also in the cast are Teo Briones, Richard Harmon, Owen Patrick Joyner, Anna Lore, Brec Bassinger, Tony Todd, and others.

Final Destination Bloodlines parents guide

For parents, the Final Destination films can present a challenge, and Final Destination Bloodlines is no exception. Like the previous movies, this new installment is rated R. This means it's intended for adults, and viewers under 17 years old must be accompanied by a parent or guardian to watch it in theaters. The film was given an R maturity rating for strong violent/grisly accidents and language. Parents should be aware that the movie contains intense scenes of creative, often graphic deaths that can be disturbing for younger audiences, along with mature themes and some harsh language.

There's also extreme blood and gore throughout the film, particularly during the elaborate death sequences the franchise is known for. These sequences are designed to shock and unsettle, often showing characters meeting their end in sudden, gruesome, and highly detailed ways. The film does not shy away from depicting the aftermath of these accidents either, which may include crushed bodies, impalements, burns, and other forms of graphic trauma.

Two particularly unsettling death scenes in Final Destination Bloodlines come to mind immediately, one involving a character and a garbage truck, and another featuring a character and an MRI scanner. Just thinking about those two scenes is enough to make my stomach turn! Overall, this movie is definitely not for the faint-hearted or younger audiences. True to the series’ style, it pulls no punches, keeping you on edge and anxiously awaiting which character will meet their gruesome end next and how.
