The wait is over. Guillermo del Toro’s long-anticipated Frankenstein movie for Netflix has finally revealed a first look at Jacob Elordi as the iconic monster, and he looks nothing like you’ve seen before. On July 28, Vanity Fair published a major preview article that included brand-new images from the film, and one of those pictures was a haunting close-up of Elordi fully transformed and unrecognizable.
Here's a first look at the actor in full creature makeup via the Film Updates X account:

Big props to the makeup and costume department because Elordi’s transformation is stunning. Every detail, from the scars to the pale, textured skin, perfectly captures the tragic and terrifying essence of Frankenstein’s monster. Now, we're just ready to see how he brings this complex character to life on screen!
Frankenstein is del Toro's latest Netflix project. He previously co-wrote and co-directed the stop-motion dark fantasy film Pinocchio. He also created the horror anthology miniseries Cabinet of Curiosities. In addition, he was behind the Tales of Arcadia franchise on Netflix. Frankenstein marks his seventh Netflix project, and what many expect to be another amazing addition to his portfolio.
It's described as a gothic science fiction film. Del Toro wrote the script as well as helmed and produced the movie. It's an adaptation of Mary Shelley's classic 1818 novel Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus, and aims to explore the complex relationship between a creator and his creation. When a very smart but arrogant scientist pushes the boundaries of life and death by bringing a creature to life, he sets in motion a tragic chain of events for himself and his creation.
Golden Globe winner Oscar Isaac stars as Victor Frankenstein, the remarkably smart but vain scientist. As mentioned above, Elordi portrays the role of Frankenstein's monster. Also in the cast are Mia Goth, Felix Kammerer, Lars Mikkelsen, David Bradley, Charles Dance, and Christoph Waltz.
Back in May 2025, Netflix dropped the first teaser trailer for Frankenstein. Check it out below!
The movie will be shown for the first time ever (world premiere) at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival. It will be part of the main competition. After the festival screening, the film will be released worldwide on Netflix in November 2025. The streaming giant hasn't set an official release date just yet, but we're hoping for an early November release. We'll get back to you with these juicy deets once Netflix makes it known.
Given that Frankenstein will be released on the streaming platform in November, the official trailer will most likely drop sometime in October. Netflix usually releases its movie/show trailers a month before their release. Once the trailer comes out, we'll be sure to share it as well.
