There's a new horror film on the horizon, and its chilling premise is bound to grab your attention. It's called Whistle, and IFC Films and Shudder have officially acquired the U.S. rights to this upcoming supernatural teen horror from The Nun director Corin Hardy. The movie will have a broad theatrical release, but the official release date has not been announced yet.
Hardy directed this film about a cursed object with deadly consequences from a screenplay written by Owen Egerton. Egerton adapted it from his own eerie short story. In addition, the film is produced by David Gross and Jesse Shapira of No Trace Camping, along with Macdara Kelleher from Wild Atlantic Pictures.
The story centers around a group of unsuspecting high school students who come across a cursed artifact, an ancient Aztec Death Whistle. They soon realize that blowing the whistle releases a terrifying sound and triggers a supernatural force that begins hunting the person who used it. This force will relentlessly pursue its victims until it claims their lives. It then becomes a race against time to uncover the whistle’s dark origins and find a way to stop the deadly curse before it destroys them all.
You’ll probably recognize some, if not all, of the cast. Sophie Nélisse, known for her role as teen Shauna in the Showtime horror series Yellowjackets, takes on an undisclosed role in this upcoming horror film. Joining her is Dafne Keen (The Acolyte, His Dark Materials), Sky Yang (Rebel Moon movies), Percy Hynes White (Wednesday, My Old Ass), and Nick Frost (Black Cab, Get Away).
So far, these are the only details available about Whistle. With filming already completed and a U.S. distributor on board, an official release date should be announced soon. Also, an official trailer will likely drop closer to its release. Don't worry. We'll come back and share all the latest updates as soon as they’re out. But for now, you must stay tuned to 1428 Elm!
