Despite being heralded as one of the most iconic scream queens of all time after playing Laurie Strode in the Halloween franchise, Jamie Lee Curtis once claimed that she didn't like horror movies. However, she sure loves being part of them!
Not only did Curtis return for Blumhouse's Halloween reboot trilogy, but she also recently joined the cast of new film Return to Sender with Late Night with the Devil star David Dastmalchian. Next, Deadline reports that the actress will executive produce a television show for Blumhouse based on Marisha Pessl's bestselling novel Darkly.
Released in November 2024, Darkly is a YA mystery thriller novel published by Penguin Random House. It is about a girl named Arcadia "Dia" Gannon and her obsession with a series of intriguingly terrifying games and toys designed by the Darkly empire. She looks up to the lead game designer, Louisiana Veda who suffers a mysterious death, leaving her gaming empire dormant.
One day, Dia is chosen alongside six other teens to get an internship at Darkly. They're given the chance to dig into the company's secrets and learn the truth about the games they hold dear.
"As Dia and her fellow interns delve into the heart of Darkly, they discover hidden symbols, buried clues and a web of intrigue. Who are these other teens, and what secrets do they keep? Why were any of them really chosen? The answers lie within the twisted labyrinth of Darkly," shares Deadline.
Apart from Curtis, Darkly will also be executive produced by Jason Blum and Chris Dickie for Blumhouse. The series has not yet picked a writer or any cast.
This new deal is part of Curtis' overall deal with Blumhouse, which spawned two other series executive produced by her, including black comedy show The Sticky and the upcoming Scarpetta which co-stars Curtis and NIcole Kidman. Both series were produced for Amazon Prime Video, so Darkly is likely to end up there, too.
Curtis is staying plenty busy these days, promoting her upcoming Freaky Friday sequel Freakier Friday in which she returns as Tess Coleman alongside Lindsay Lohan and Chad Michael Murray.
Last year she starred in Borderlands and The Last Showgirl, along with appearing in episodes of The Bear. In 2022, Curtis won her first Oscar for her role in Everything Everywhere All at Once and also appeared in Haunted Mansion and the final Halloween movie (at least, for now) Halloween Ends.
