After starring in films of various genres, Academy Award-winning actress Jessica Chastain has finally found her way back to horror with Incidents Around the House, a new project from Atomic Monster and Blumhouse, who are teaming up with Spin a Black Yarn to make it. Universal Pictures is signed on as distributor. Below, we shared all that's been revealed so far about this upcoming film.
Can you believe it? Chastain is diving back into horror! The last time we saw her take on a horror role was in the 2019 supernatural horror flick It Chapter Two, where she played the grown-up Beverly Marsh. But before that, you might remember her from the other supernatural horror Mama, where she starred as a reluctant guardian to two haunted children. Well, it looks like supernatural horror movies are her thing because her upcoming project Incidents Around the House looks to be of the same genre.
English filmmaker Rob Savage, who is best known for his other horror movies Host and The Boogeyman, will direct the film from a screenplay written by Nathan Elston (Succession). Like many movies nowadays, this one is adapted from existing source material. The film is based on Josh Malerman's 2024 horror novel of the same name. Malerman is a New York Times bestselling author best known for writing the post-apocalyptic horror novel Bird Box, which was later turned into a Netflix movie. While plot details remain under wraps at the moment for Incidents Around the House, it looks like we can expect a chilling and suspenseful experience based on what the book is about.
In the novel, the story centers on a haunting seen through the eyes of a young girl, whose troubled family becomes the target of an entity she refers to as "Other Mommy." Now, that sounds like a chilling premise for a supernatural horror, and with Rob Savage at the helm, it’s sure to be an unnerving experience full of tension and terror. We're excited to see how the terrifying concept unfolds on screen, especially with Jessica Chastain attached!
James Wan of Atomic Monster is producing, with Savage, Malerman, Michael Clear, Judson Scott, Macdara Kelleher, and Ryan Lewis serving as executive producers. Additionally, Alayna Glasthal will oversee the movie for Atomic Monster.
