Last Night in Soho star Thomasin McKenzie joins Margaret Qualley in Victorian Psycho
After captivating audiences with her mesmerizing performance in Last Night in Soho, Thomasin McKenzie is back with another intense, gripping role. She's set to join The Substance's Margaret Qualley in the upcoming psychological horror thriller Victorian Psycho. We first learned of this movie back in October, and it looks like things are coming right along.
Victorian Psycho is based on the upcoming novel of the same name by bestselling author Virginia Feito. Feito is also penning the script for the movie with Zachary Wigon (Sanctuary) directing. Longlegs producer Dan Kagan will produce under his Traffic banner, along with Sebastien Raybaud and Wigon, in collaboration with Anonymous Content. Executive producers on the project include Nick Shumaker and Bard Dorros.
Additionally, Anton is fully financing the film as well as representing international rights and co-representing U.S. rights alongside UTA Independent Film Group and CAA Media Finance. The production, sales, and financing company (Anton) recently launched the movie to buyers at the American Film Market.
The story takes place in 1858 and follows the arrival of Winifred Notty, a young governess, at the remote gothic estate of Ensor House. Her duties include teaching the children proper table manners and educating them about their family’s past, but no one knows of her psychopathic tendencies.
As Winifred settles into her role, strange and unexplainable disappearances among the staff occur, leading the estate’s owners to grow suspicious of their new governess and wonder if she's the person behind them. Qualley will star in the leading role of Winifred Notty, while McKenzie will portray a nursemaid at Ensor House who becomes friends with Winifred.
Besides her starring role as Eloise "Ellie" Turner in Last Night in Soho, McKenzie is known for her other roles in movies such as The King, Lost Girls, Old, The Power of the Dog and Eileen. We'll see her next in the biographical drama film Joy, which will be released on Netflix on Nov. 22.
Principal photography on Victorian Psycho is reportedly set to start sometime in February 2025, according to Deadline. We'll probably hear of more cast additions as we get closer to the start of production. But for right now, this is all we know about the upcoming horror thriller.
