Fangoria’s 2024 Chainsaw Awards show premiered live on Shudder TV on October 13. If you missed it, it’s available to stream now on Shudder, but if you don’t have a subscription, 1428 Elm is glad to give you a list of the big winners.

Fangoria is of course the iconic horror magazine that made its debut in 1979. Known by the general public for its super-gory covers, true horror fans loved it for the in-depth info we could find in its pages. Interviews, behind the scenes intel, reviews for horror movies and books, details about gore and monster special effects and of course great photos – all of that and more were included in each issue.

As a teenager, I used to go straight to the magazine rack in my local bookstore, pick up the latest issue of Fangoria, and read all about the new and upcoming horror movies that I hoped I could watch. I was too embarrassed to buy an issue because of the gory cover art, but I eagerly devoured the content within. I am pleased to say that I am now a proud subscriber, and I am not one little bit embarrassed about that.

Fangoria has been through a lot over the past 45 years, even closing up shop for a year in 2017, but it is now back and going strong under editor-in-chief Phil Nobile Jr.

The Fangoria Chainsaw awards began in 1992, and has been broadcast on Shudder for a few years now. This year, the show was hosted by David Dastmalchian (Late Night with the Devil) and Fangoria’s digital editor Angel Melanson. The list of nominees was quite long since the 2024 awards encompassed 18 months’ worth of films.

You may be wondering who decides the winners of the awards, and the answer is simple: fans. Horror fans are encouraged to vote each year, and those of us who vote decide. If you aren’t happy with the winners, vote next year!
