It's always exciting when a new horror film gets picked up, particularly by distributors like A24 or Neon. These companies have a keen eye for great horror content, and more often than not, the films they acquire are usually both unique and boundary-pushing. One of these indie powerhouses just snagged the worldwide rights to a new body horror, and based on what we know so far about this movie, it's something you're going to want to see.
We're talking about Neon, the studio that delivered what is arguably the best horror film of 2024, Longlegs. If you haven't seen Longlegs, maybe you're familiar with other Neon horror movies such as Immaculate, Cuckoo, Possessor and Infinity Pool. Now, the company has another horror flick to add to its lineup, and we're hoping it hits theaters this year.
The film is titled Together, and it stars real-life husband and wife Alison Brie and Dave Franco. After its recent premiere at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival, Neon quickly secured the rights to the movie. Reports indicate there was a bidding war, with A24 and Mubi also in the mix. Although the final price for what the film sold for remains undisclosed, sources claim the bidding surpassed $10 million at one point. That's impressive!
Michael Shanks wrote the script as well as directed the film. This is his directorial debut. Brie, Franco, Erik Feig, Lia Buman, Mike Cowan, and Andrew Mittman produced, while Tango, Picturestart, and 30WEST financed the movie. Buman, who is the co-founder of Tango, is also signed on as an executive producer along with Tango's Neil Shah, Picturestart’s Samie Kim Falvey, 1.21’s Kai Dolbashian, Princess Pictures’ Laura Waters and Emma Fitzsimmons, and 30WEST’s Micah Green, Daniel Steinman, and Sarah Hong.
The body horror centers around a codependent couple, played by Brie and Franco, who relocate to the countryside in an effort to strengthen their bond. While they do grow closer, not in the way they expected. Their bond ends up intensifying in a horrifying, physical way due to a supernatural force. Brie portrays the role of Millie and Franco as Tim. Damon Herriman joins them in the cast as Jamie.
Brie and Franco aren't new to the horror genre. Brie previously starred in horror flicks such as Parasomnia, Scream 4 and The Rental, while Franco had a role in the supernatural horror film Fright Night. They've also starred together in movies like The Little Hours and The Disaster Artist. Brie's most recent project was the mystery drama miniseries Apples Never Fall. Franco took on the role of JJ in the A24 romantic thriller Love Lies Bleeding.
Neon has not set a release date for Together, which makes sense since they just acquired it. However, given that it has already been filmed and edited, there's a good chance it could come out this year. We'll get back to you with this juicy information once it's announced.
Together joins Neon's upcoming lineup of horror films, which already includes The Monkey, Hell of a Summer and Brides.
