Kids will have something really exciting to watch this summer. Netflix will be releasing a new animated film that is sure to capture the interest of young audiences everywhere. It's titled KPop Demon Hunters, and yes, it's as fun and unique as it sounds!
While not exactly a horror film, it incorporates horror elements, focusing on demon hunters. Sony Pictures Animation produced the movie, which is the same studio behind other popular animated films such as Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and The Mitchells vs. The Machines. The film was directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, who were also involved in the scriptwriting process, along with Danya Jimenez and Hannah McMechan. In addition, the main idea for the story, or the concept behind it, originates from Kang.
So, what exactly is KPop Demon Hunters about? It centers around K-pop sensations Rumi, Mira, and Zoey, who when they're not rocking out on stage performing to sold-out crowds, lead double lives as undercover demon hunters, shielding their fans from any supernatural threats. But their toughest challenge yet comes in the form of a rival boy band, one that's secretly made up of demons in disguise.
Arden Cho (Avatar: The Last Airbender, Teen Wolf), May Hong (Hacks, Tales of the City), and Ji-young Yoo (Until Dawn, Expats) lead the voice cast as the superstar K-pop girl group, comprising Rumi, Mira, and Zoey. Ahn Hyo-seop, who is best known for starring in the romantic K-Dramas Business Proposal and A Time Called You, lends his voice to a member of the rival boy band.
Other talented actors in the voice cast include Yunjin Kim, Joel Kim Booster, Liza Koshy, Daniel Dae Kim, Ken Jeong, and Byung Hun Lee.
Netflix has not yet shared an official trailer. However, we're expecting it to be released closer to the film's release date, which is Friday, June 20, 2025. For now, you can check out these newly released production stills from the animated movie, which offer a sneak peek at the characters and the stunning animation!
