Can the summer get here already? Seriously! Sony Pictures just dropped a thrilling new trailer for the long-awaited 28 Years Later, and it’s everything fans of the iconic horror saga could’ve hoped for. We're talking terrifying imagery, heart-pounding tension, and a chilling glimpse at what the Rage virus has become. This isn't just another sequel. 28 Years Later takes the terror to new heights, with a world that’s more dangerous, more brutal, and more unpredictable than ever. You don't want to miss this horror flick when it hits theaters this June!
It's been over two decades since the deadly Rage virus broke free from a research lab. The remaining survivors have found a way to endure, building isolated communities and enforcing strict precautions to keep the infected at bay. One such group of survivors has managed to live on an island that is isolated from the infected mainland, connected only by a single, heavily guarded causeway. But the fragile peace they've clung to is about to be shattered.
When a father and his son set out on a dangerous mission across the causeway, venturing into the heart of the mainland, what they discover is far more terrifying than they ever imagined. They are forced to confront the haunting reality of what the world has become, and that some horrors aren't just caused by the infected.
Academy Award-winning director Danny Boyle helmed this post-apocalyptic horror film from a script that Alex Garland wrote. They previously worked together on the first movie in the film series 28 Days Later. With that film being such a massive success, expectations are sky-high for the franchise's return, especially with Boyle and Garland reuniting to bring the next chapter to life. Additionally, Columbia Pictures produced the movie, with Sony Pictures Releasing serving as the distributor.
In this sequel, we'll see a new group of survivors of the Rage virus. Talented actors Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ralph Fiennes, Jack O'Connell, Erin Kellyman, Edvin Ryding, Emma Laird, and others make up the cast. Cillian Murphy, who played the role of Jim in the first movie, returns as an executive producer. While he won't be in this new film, he is confirmed to reprise his Jim role later in the trilogy. 28 Years Later will release in theaters on Friday, June 20, 2025. A sequel titled 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple will be released on Jan. 16, 2026, followed by an untitled final film in the trilogy at a later date.
