There are too many streaming services to keep up with nowadays. Yet, the premium horror streaming service Shudder remains at the top of the pack for anyone seeking out horror movies, both mainstream and independent (though usually independent).

This year has been incredible for this genre, with dozens of fantastic horror movies released and many generating critical acclaim. It's an exciting time to be a horror fan. But with so many movies to keep tabs on, it's easy to lose track. Luckily, Shudder has many of this year's best and most-discussed scary movies streaming now!

In a Violent Nature

Have you ever wanted to watch a horror movie depicted from the killer's perspective? That's exactly what this found-footage film is. Similar to if we were to see a Friday the 13th film from Jason's POV. In a Violent Nature also boasts one of the gnarliest slasher movie kills seen on screen this year, which is quite impressive. The movie did well with critics, and a sequel is already in development. Even if you're usually not a fan of found-footage horror, I recommend giving this a shot because of its unique set-up.

Late Night with the Devil

A live television broadcast in 1977 goes awry during a late-night talk show. The film is set up like an old recording of the incident, so we get a firsthand look at what happened that fateful Halloween night when one of the guests is a teenage girl supposedly possessed by a demonic spirit. Smart, funny, and well-acted, it's easy to see why Late Night with the Devil has become one of this year's highest-rated horror movies.

Exhuma

Another acclaimed Korean horror movie was released earlier this year, and it's an absolute must-watch for fans of the genre. American fans may have missed out because it was only released on VOD in the States initially, but now Shudder has it available to stream! As the title teases, Exhuma is about what happens when an old grave is excavated, unleashing long-hidden secrets and their consequences. I recommend this one for fans of The Wailing.

V/H/S/Beyond - Live and Let Dive

V/H/S/Beyond

The seventh installment in the found-footage anthology film series, V/H/S/Beyond, is also one of the best in the film series. The segments in this sci-fi-themed movie were more inventive and experimental. Filmmakers like Kate Siegel, Mike Flanagan, and Justin Long were all involved in this one, and some of the highlights include alien abductions, a terrifying skydiving experience, and a sinister doggie daycare.

ODDITY

Oddity

When a woman dies under mysterious circumstances, her twin sister jumps into action to investigate the suspicious conditions of her death. Dani (Carolyn Bracken) is tragically killed one night while home alone, and everyone immediately suspects that one of her husband's patients (he works at a nearby psychiatric hospital) is guilty. But not everything adds up. Darla (also played by Bracken) is a blind, clairvoyant curio shopkeeper who uses an unorthodox method to look into what happened to her sister.

Samara Weaving in Azrael

Azrael

Azrael might not be as popular as other movies on this list, but you should still check it out. For starters, it features scream queen Samara Weaving, who has made quite the name for herself in recent years with hits like Ready or Not, The Babysitter, and Scream VI. In Azrael, Weaving plays a formerly imprisoned woman on the run for her life from a cult of mute zealots who intend to use her as part of a sacrifice.
