Ex Machina is hands down my favorite rogue AI movie of all time, and I'm sure there are others who think the same. It's a critically acclaimed sci-fi thriller flick written and directed by Alex Garland. Critics praised the movie for its compelling screenplay, thought-provoking themes, impressive special effects, and strong performances. It even went on to win the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects at the 88th Academy Awards, while Garland was nominated for Best Original Screenplay.
The story follows Caleb Smith, a programmer working for a huge search engine company who, after winning a contest, gets the opportunity to spend a week at the luxurious private estate of the company's CEO, Nathan Bateman. Upon his arrival, Caleb learns that Nathan has built a highly advanced humanoid robot named Ava. He also learns that Nathan has selected him to administer a Turing test to the AI robot in order to test how human she is.
As Caleb engages in conversations with Ava, he becomes increasingly convinced of her self-awareness as she displays emotions and is able to express her desire for freedom and autonomy. However, their bonding experience takes a left turn when Ava turns out to be more deceptive than he thought.

2001: A Space Odyssey is a science fiction film centering around the crew of the spaceship Discovery One, who are sent to Jupiter to discover the origins of a monolith that was buried beneath the Lunar surface. The ship's AI, supercomputer HAL 9000, controls the systems of the spacecraft. However, as the mission progresses, HAL begins malfunctioning and ultimately becomes a threat to the crew.
The Terminator (1984)

The Terminator is another good movie featuring artificial intelligence that poses a threat to humanity. It stars Arnold Schwarzenegger as a cyborg assassin from the future who is sent back in time to hunt down and kill a woman who is destined to give birth to a man who will one day save the human race from extinction. The assassination mission was given by a hostile self-aware artificial intelligence system called Skynet, which views humanity as a threat to its existence.
M3GAN (2022)

M3GAN is one of the most recent rogue AI movies to be released. It revolves around a highly advanced, artificially intelligent child-sized doll named M3GAN, who is designed to be a child's best friend. However, as M3GAN evolves and develops self-awareness, she becomes increasingly violent towards those she deems as a threat to her and her primary user. She even goes as far as murdering people if they get in her way.
