After an intense bidding war, cinematic powerhouse A24 has reportedly landed U.S. rights to the upcoming film The Death of Robin Hood, which is set to star Deadpool & Wolverine's Hugh Jackman and Killing Eve's Jodie Comer. More on this movie below.

While it's unclear what genre The Death of Robin Hood falls under, it seems to be a film of the horror or thriller genre based on its logline. A Quiet Place: Day One director Michael Sarnoski wrote the screenplay and is signed on to helm the movie, which is slated to start filming in February 2025.

Here's what Sarnoski had to say about getting the opportunity to develop this film via Deadline:

"It has been an incredible opportunity to reinvent and freshly innovate the story we all know of Robin Hood. Securing the perfect cast to transform the script to screen was essential. I could not be more thrilled and trusting in Hugh and Jodie to bring this story to life in a powerful and meaningful way."

Described as a dark reimagining of the beloved Robin Hood tale, The Death of Robin Hood follows the titular character as he struggles with a dark past that's filled with crime and murder. While severely injured, he finds himself encountering a mysterious woman who offers him a chance at salvation.

While it hasn't been revealed who Jackman and Comer will portray in the film, I think it's pretty obvious that Jackman will star as a dejected Robin Hood and Comer as the mysterious woman he encounters. More cast additions will be announced as the movie progresses through the filmmaking process.

Aaron Ryder and Andrew Swett will produce through their film production company, Ryder Picture Company, alongside Alexander Black for Lyrical Media. In addition, Sarnoski, Jackman, Jon Rosenberg, Natalie Sellers, and Rama Gottumukkala are executive producers, while Lyrical Media is fully financing the film. Unfortunately, an official release date isn't known just yet, but we do know that it won't be a straight-to-streaming release. A24 plans to release this film in theaters. Once the theatrical release date is revealed, we'll be sure to share it with you right away.
