Brandy says 'I need them to give me a call' for I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot

Everything seems to be coming together nicely for the highly anticipated I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot, which is also being called a legacy sequel. Recently, we learned that the new movie will not erase the events that happened in the 1998 sequel I Still Know What You Did Last Summer. Of course, this prompted fans to immediately start speculating if any actors from that movie could be reprising their roles in the legacy sequel.

Seeing as though the two main leads, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr., are already in talks to return, the only other actor from that film who could possibly come back would be Brandy Norwood. Besides, Hewitt and Prinze Jr.'s characters, Brandy's Karla character is the only other survivor at the end of I Still Know What You Did Last Summer.

I personally would love to see the return of this final girl, and it looks like Brandy is really keen to come back and reprise her role as Karla as well. To promote her most recent project, the Disney+ musical comedy Descendants: The Rise of Red, Brandy spoke with The Hollywood Reporter in a July 2024 interview.

During the interview, she was asked about the legacy sequel, and her response wasn't what we were expecting at all. Apparently, she hadn't heard about the new movie, which even THR couldn't believe at first. However, she reiterated that she really didn't know a new sequel was being made.

After the initial shock wore off, Brandy told THR that she'd be down to return, saying, “I need them to give me a call because I survived in that movie! I came out in the end, bloodied up, ready to go. I did not die in that film.” She even jokily said that Hewitt and Prinze Jr. needed to call her. Fingers crossed, calls will be eventually made, and a contract will be signed so that we can see Brandy return as Karla. The same goes for Hewitt and Prinze Jr.!

Camila Mendes (Riverdale, Do Revenge), Madelyn Cline (Outer Banks), Sarah Pidgeon (Lazareth), Tyriq Withers (Atlanta), and Jonah Hauer-King (The Little Mermaid) have already been cast in leading roles in the I Know What You Did Last Summer legacy sequel. While official plot details are being kept secret at the moment, there are rumored plot details swirling around on the internet. The cameras should start rolling by the end of 2024, and the movie is set for a July 18, 2025 theatrical release.
