Camila Mendes no longer to star in I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot
We hate to come bearing bad news, but we just learned some important information regarding the highly anticipated I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot that we're sure you'd want to know about. Sadly, Riverdale actress Camila Mendes will no longer star in the slasher. She has reportedly exited the Sony project due to scheduling conflicts.
Back in July 2024, Mendes, along with Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, and Jonah Haur-King, were announced to have joined the movie's cast as leads. It was also revealed at the time that Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. were in talks to reprise their roles as Julie and Ray in the reboot.
Jennifer Kaytin Robinson signed on to direct from a screenplay she co-wrote with Sam Lansky. Leah McKendrick wrote the original script. In addition, Sony Pictures will be distributing the film, which is currently set for a July 18, 2025 theatrical release. In August 2024, Brandy, who played Karla, one of the only survivors in I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, expressed her interest in returning for the reboot. We just recently learned that she's now in talks to come back.
After hearing this great news, we thought more great news would come soon. However, that isn't the case with the news of Mendes' unfortunate departure. According to Deadline, the talented actress decided to exit the I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot because she couldn't juggle filming for it with another major project she's working on. That major project is the upcoming live-action Masters of the Universe movie, which is also set to star Nicholas Galitzine.
Mendes will play the role of Teela in the live-action flick, a strong warrior and the Captain of Eternia’s Royal Guard who is responsible for training and protecting Prince Adam, aka He-Man (Nicholas Galitzine). This film is set for a June 5, 2026, theatrical release.
While it's unfortunate that Mendes won't be in the I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot anymore, we're just glad that we still have another project of hers to look forward to. That's good enough for us for now.
