Dylan O'Brien and Eliza Scanlen explore a flooded cypress forest in mysterious Caddo Lake teaser

Max just released a teaser for the upcoming thriller Caddo Lake. The teaser doesn't give away many details regarding the film's plot, but it does an excellent job of establishing the thick, murky darkness of its titular destination, Caddo Lake, which is a real place deep in southern Texas and home to one of the world's largest flooded forests of cypress trees.
Given the setting, it's easy to see how someone could get lost in a place like that, and Caddo Lake's plot starts to take shape. It's a thriller about the disappearance of an eight-year-old girl who links together multiple other disappearances and disturbances in the area, ultimately threatening to shatter an already struggling family. The film will start streaming exclusively on Max this October.
Dylan O'Brien and Eliza Scanlen star. O'Brien is best known for starring in the MTV series Teen Wolf and movies like The Maze Runner trilogy. Scanlen's credits include the HBO miniseries Sharp Objects, Little Women, and The Devil All the Time. She was also in the Shyamalan-directed film Old.
Diana Hopper, Caroline Falk, Sam Hennings, Eric Lange, and Lauren Ambrose also star.
Labeled a Max Original film, Caddo Lake hails from producer M. Night Shyamalan and writer-directors Celine Held and Logan George. The pair previously directed episodes for Shyamalan's Apple TV+ series Servant.
Apparently Held and George saw a captivating photo of the real Caddo Lake online, which led them on a trip to visit multiple cypress forests dotted along the border of Texas and Louisiana. While it sounds like they didn't film on the lake, they did shoot the movie in late 2021 and 2022 in various locations in Karnak, Texas.
While Max doesn't appear to have many horror titles lined up for this Halloween season, the streamer is still working on the upcoming It prequel series Welcome to Derry, set to debut in 2025. But stay tuned to 1428 Elm for more information and updates if any new titles are announced!
