Everything we know about The Watchers starring Dakota Fanning
By Mads Lennon
Coming to theaters this June, The Watchers is an exciting new movie from director Ishana Night Shyamalan, daughter of M. Night Shyamalan. Ishana previously worked with her dad on his films Old and Knock at the Cabin, in addition to writing and directing several episodes of his Apple TV+ series Servant. Now, she's making her feature directorial debut.
The Watchers is based on the novel of the same name by A.M. Shine. Ishana also wrote the film's script, adapting Shine's book for the screen. When 28-year-old Mina (Dakota Fanning) finds her car breaking down near a forest, she takes refuge inside a strange house with a glass wall and several other visitors. They inform Mina that they must stay inside the house at night lest they anger the mysterious creatures keeping them captive.
Come nightfall, the creatures emerge to watch their captives from behind the glass wall, which conveniently doubles as a mirror. There's a particularly eerie moment in the trailer in which we hear them "applauding" for Mina's arrival.

The Watchers will be released in theaters on June 7, its original date before Warner Bros. pushed it back to Father's Day weekend. Deadline recently revealed that WB had decided to return the movie to its original date. Now, it'll be up against the new Bad Boys movie.
Who stars in The Watchers and what is it about?
Dakota Fanning stars as the main character, Mina. Barbarian star Georgina Campbell joins her alongside Oliver Finnegan (Outlander) and Olwen Fouéré, who played older Sally Hardesty in Netflix's Texas Chainsaw Massacre and recently starred in the Sony film Tarot.
The Watchers appears to be following the book pretty closely, as here is the synopsis for Shine's novel from Goodreads:
"This forest isn't charted on any map. Every car breaks down at its treeline. Mina's is no different. Left stranded, she is forced into the dark woodland only to find a woman shouting, urging Mina to run to a concrete bunker. As the door slams behind her, the building is besieged by screams.
Mina finds herself in a room with a wall of glass, and an electric light that activates at nightfall, when the Watchers come above ground. These creatures emerge to observe their captive humans and terrible things happen to anyone who doesn't reach the bunker in time."
It's an exciting time to be a fan of the Shyamalan family. M. Night Shyamalan also has a new movie coming out this summer, Trap, starring Josh Hartnett and M. Night Shyamalan's other daughter, the R&B singer Saleka Shyamalan, as the singer Lady Raven.
