A new season of Evil is finally here, and with it, we'll see our favorite trio in an assortment of horrifying situations. In the season 4 premiere, Ben (Aasif Mandvi) is struck by an ion beam, which causes him to begin seeing eerie visions of a malevolent jinn.

Like Kristen, Ben is a skeptic who always tries to find a reasonable and realistic explanation for the many paranormal and supernatural oddities he and his team encounter upon their various expeditions.

But his faith in science has been tested several times throughout the series, whether because his girlfriend was supposedly carrying around her dead twin or when he almost gets ritually sacrificed by a religious cult. He's also seen his fair share of demonic hallucinations, just like Kristen and David.

The fourth season will test Ben's mettle after his visit to a particle accelerator (that may or may not have opened a gate to Hell) ends with him getting hit on the forehead by a stray ion beam that turns his world upside down.

1428 Elm had the chance to chat with show star Aasif Mandvi about what's to come in the new season. I mentioned that there's some irony in the fact that it is a technological invention that causes Ben to have a paranormal experience. We got to talking about what playing this new conflict for Ben was like for Mandvi.

"His faith in science, his belief in the empirical, that becomes his crisis of faith this season. He can't explain the thing that is happening to him physically and personally. "

Noting that the "technological" thing that happens to him causes the paranormal experience, Mandvi pointed out that "it's almost a loop," and added that it has been fun for him to get the chance to play this new side of Ben, who is really out of his element.

"I feel like he's so rooted in the earth, and now he gets uprooted and thrown around a little bit, which is always fun to play."

The premiere episode of Evil season 4 is now streaming on Paramount+, with new episodes releasing weekly. To stay up to date on all things Evil and more horror, bookmark 1428 Elm and follow our Facebook page and Twitter account!
