Hayden Panettiere joins Virginia Gardner and Grace Caroline Currey in A Breed Apart

Back in June 2024, we learned that Fall stars Virginia Gardner and Grace Caroline Currey would be starring in an upcoming remake of the natural horror film The Breed. Well, guess who just joined the cast? Scream star Hayden Panettiere! She, along with several others, will be starring alongside Gardner and Currey in the new horror film.

Wait! We need to clear some things up about this movie first. It's not actually a remake. It was initially believed to be one, but instead, it's a sequel to The Breed. It's also been given an official title, A Breed Apart.

While it's still unclear who is writing the script for the film, filmmaking brothers Nathan and Griff Furst (Nightmare Shark) will be directing and producing via their Curmudgeon Films production company. In addition, Daro Film Distribution is signed on to co-produce and will be financing the movie as well.

A Breed Apart has been described as an unconventional reimagining of the Wes Craven-produced 2006 film The Breed. It takes place after the events of the first movie and sees a new group of people in a fight for survival against a relentless pack of deadly dogs on a remote island.

Here are the plot details about A Breed Apart via Deadline:

"The plot of A Breed Apart sees a pack of dogs escape during the making of a fictional The Breed 2 movie during filming on a remote island. Years later, a group of YouTubers are drawn to the island to try and find the canines in a project they hope goes viral and which is the brainchild of influencer Vince Venture, who is played by Bragg. The reality is that they face a fight for survival and each of the influencers must use their unique skills to stay alive."

Currey leads the film, playing the role of Violet. Violet is described as a rebel who is determined to track down the dogs. However, it's unknown who Gardner and Panettiere will be playing in the movie. The rest of the ensemble cast is made up of Joey Bragg (Sid is Dead, Call Your Mother), Troy Gentile (The Goldbergs), Riele Downs (Bel-Air, Darby and the Dead), and Page Kennedy (Meg 2: The Trench, The Upshaws). Bragg will play influencer Vince Venture in the movie.

Production will reportedly take place in Guatemala. However, it's unknown when the cameras will start rolling. What we do know is that the film has already been set for a 2025 release.
