Virginia Gardner and Grace Caroline Currey to reunite for The Breed remake
While remakes can be hit-or-miss, we hope that the upcoming remake of the natural horror film The Breed does the original 2006 movie justice. We first learned of this film back in May 2024, and more information has come out since then.
The Breed is set to be directed and produced by filmmaking brothers Nathan and Griff Furst. They previously helmed the horror action film Nightmare Shark. They will produce this horror flick through their film production company, Curmudgeon Films, which will also be handling sales across the Americas. Additionally, the movie will be co-produced and financed by Daro Film Distribution, which also represents the international rights to the film. It's unknown who will be writing the script, though.
Back in May 2024, Grace Caroline Currey was announced to have joined the cast. She leads the horror film, playing a character named Violet. She is best known for starring in the DC Extended Universe films Shazam! and Shazam! Fury of the Gods. She also starred in the supernatural horror movie Annabelle: Creation and the survival thriller film Fall.
Virginia Gardner joins Currey in the cast. However, who she will be playing in The Breed is unknown at the moment. She and Currey previously starred together in Fall, which currently has a sequel in the works. You might also recognize Gardner from her previous roles as Karolina Dean in the Hulu superhero series Runaways and as Vicky in the 2018 horror film Halloween. Also joining Gardner and Currey in the cast is Page Kennedy, who has an undisclosed role. He's best known for playing DJ in The Meg film series.
The remake is described as an "unconventional reimagining" of the 2006 film of the same name. According to Variety, it will follow "a group of people searching for abandoned dogs on a remote island, with terror-filled consequences." However, the film will mainly center around the Violet character, "a rebel icon and badass on a mission to search for abandoned dogs on a remote island which leads to complete adrenaline-fueled terror.”
Lastly, production on the film is set to take place in Guatemala, and it's expected to be released sometime in 2025. That's all we know about The Breed remake as of right now. As we learn new information about the horror flick, we'll definitely come back and share everything we found. So, stay tuned to 1428 Elm!
