From good dads just trying to keep their families safe to murderous fathers who kill their loved ones due to outside forces, let's celebrate Father's Day with some great horror movies that feature memorable dads.

The Stepfather (1987)

This horror film stars Terry O'Quinn in one of his most memorable roles to date. He plays a supposed "family man" who secretly has several different families, most of whom fall prey to his murderous intentions. He sets his sights on his next victim, a recently widowed single mother named Susan (Shelley Heck).

But Susan's daughter (Jill Schoelen) soon begins to suspect that something is seriously wrong with her mom's new beau. This movie is streaming free on Tubi, and if you like it, I recommend checking out the 2009 remake, which is also pretty good.

The Silence of the Lambs (1991)

This movie lands on the list as a special shoutout to my own father. He hates horror movies. Thus far, the only one I've ever heard him praise is The Silence of the Lambs, and that's because it's less gory and more psychological. But it's still a damn good movie, so now is as good of a time as any to revisit it.

The Amityville Horror (2005)

Despite its poor critical reception, the 2005 remake of The Amityville Horror is generally considered one of the best in a very lackluster franchise. Ryan Reynolds is especially excellent in a dark turn that allows him to show off his dramatic acting chops. Based on the novel by Jay Anson, the film follows a family suffering a horrific haunting that makes men kill their entire families. Streaming on Max.

A Quiet Place (2018)

If you want to talk about great dads in horror movies, look no further than John Krasinski in A Quiet Place. Krasinski directed the film based on a script he wrote with Bryan Woods and Scott Beck. His co-star, Emily Blunt, also happens to be his real-life wife.

Set in a world where extraterrestrial beings that hunt by sound alone, Lee Abbott must do whatever it takes to keep his family safe. Now streaming on Paramount+, and A Quiet Place: Day One releases in theaters on June 27.

The Shining (1980)

Jack Torrance is kind of the poster child for murderous horror movie fathers. Jack Nicholson delivers one of the genre's most iconic performances in this classic horror movie from director Stanley Kubrick based on the novel of the same name by Stephen King.

Train to Busan (2016)

Speaking of good dads, you don't get much better than Seok-woo. He might start off as a bad dad who hasn't been there for his daughter, but by the end of the movie, he's totally redeemed himself as he does whatever he can to keep Su-an alive when they find themselves trapped on a zombie-infested train. Streaming on Tubi.
