Vampires are back in vogue. According to Variety, Oscar-nominated actress Kristen Stewart and Emmy-nominated star Oscar Isaac are teaming up for a vampire thriller movie set in the 1980s from Mandy director Panos Cosmatos. The idea of Isaac and Stewart together in a movie is already enough to get me hooked, but add vampires and Cosmatos, and they cannot make this film fast enough.

The upcoming thriller, Flesh of the Gods, will follow a married couple played by Isaac and Stewart as they leave their luxurious condo to dip into the city's hedonistic nighttime realm. There, they cross paths with a mysterious figure known as the Nameless and her cabal of hard-partying friends, who lure the couple down a path of violence and thrills.

If you haven't seen Mandy—the Lovecraftian horror film starring Nicolas Cage—I highly recommend checking it out to get an idea of Cosmatos' directing style. His distinct flair feels like a perfect fit for an '80s-set vampire movie stand out. Cosmatos worked with writer Andrew Kevin Walker to create the film's story, and Walker wrote the script. That's yet another exciting development as Walker is the scribe behind David Fincher's films The Killer and Se7en.

Filming on Flesh of the Gods is set to get underway later this year, which hopefully means the film will be released sometime in 2025.

When speaking of Flesh of the Gods, Cosmatos described the film as "propulsive and hypnotic," adding that it will take viewers "on a hot joy ride deep into the glittering heart of hell."

This movie marks the third overall collaboration between the director and XYZ Films, as they are also developing the phantasmagorical sci-fi feature Nekrokosm with A24. Stewart recently worked with A24 on another thriller set in the 1980s, Love Lies Bleeding.

Producer Adam McKay teased more of what to expect from the film.

"This director, this writer, these incredible actors, vampires, choice ’80s punk, style and attitude for miles… that’s the film we’re bringing you today. We think it’s wildly commercial and wildly artful. Our ambitions are to make a movie that ripples through popular culture, fashion, music and film. Can you tell how excited I am?"

Between this, Mahershala Ali's Blade, Interview with the Vampire season 2, and the upcoming collaboration between Michael B. Jordan and Ryan Coogler, it's truly an exciting time to be a vampire fan.
