Showtime is prepping to add to its expansive Dexter Universe yet again! Dexter Morgan is coming back in a new sequel series to Dexter: New Blood titled Dexter: Resurrection, and yes, Michael C. Hall will be reprising his role as the titular serial killer.

The announcement came during the recent San Diego Comic Con panel for the previously announced prequel series Dexter: Original Sin, which is currently in production. Hall, who also serves as an executive producer on Dexter: Original Sin, made a surprise appearance during the panel alongside executive producer/showrunner Clyde Phillips to drop the news.

In addition to Dexter Morgan's return, the panel revealed that the Golden Globe Award-winning actor will lend his voice to Dexter's "inner voice" in the prequel show, which features actor Patrick Gibson taking over for Hall to play a young Dexter set in 1990s Miami, Florida.

Check out the first teaser for Dexter: Original Sin, featuring the show's opening credits and Hall's voice as the narrator.

Apart from revealing the existence of Dexter: Resurrection, no other details were given about the series except that it will take place after Dexter: New Blood. Dexter died in the miniseries finale, and his son, Harrison Morgan (Jack Alcott), was last seen leaving town.

Given that the show title includes "Resurrection," we can assume that Dexter didn't really die in the finale. I feel like that's kind of a cheap ploy, but I guess we'll see how the sequel handles it. There's also the possibility that Dexter is dead, and the "resurrection" refers to him taking on the role of Harrison's "dark passenger," a hallucination that urges him to do bad things and potentially follow in his father's murderous footsteps. But again, it's way too early to tell.

Dexter: Resurrection will air in the summer of 2025, while Dexter: Original Sin is on track for a December 2024 premiere.
