1428 Elm previously reported that Mike Flanagan was working hard to make his 2016 slasher movie Hush accessible again after it was removed from Netflix. On July 18, he was finally able to give us the good news!

A press release shared by MovieWeb confirms that Hush will become available on digital platforms to rent or purchase in the U.S. and Canada starting on Tuesday, August 27, thanks to a deal between Flanagan, Blumhouse, Intrepid Pictures, and Shout! Studios.

Originally premiered at the South by Southwest Festival in 2016, Hush stars Kate Siegel as a deaf-mute horror author named Maddie who leaves New York City behind to live in a more secluded home so she can peacefully work on her next novel. One night, a crossbow-wielding killer attacks Maddie's visiting friend, and upon realizing Maddie is deaf, he targets her next.

While Hush was not Flanagan's first feature film, it was one of his most popular early projects, thanks largely in part to the movie streaming on Netflix shortly after its world premieres. Hush remained on Netflix for seven years before the digital license expired and it was removed in April 2023.

Since then, Flanagan has been actively trying to get the movie released on another format, as it hasn't been available to watch anywhere since Netflix took it down. Thankfully, we now know that fans will get to buy the movie (or rent it) this August. In his X (shared above) post he teased "more to come," so hopefully that means a physical copy is still in development!

"HUSH is one of the projects that is closest to my heart, and I cannot think of a better home than Shout! I’m so glad that people will finally be able to rent or purchase the film digitally. I’ve always loved how Shout! Studios champions and treasures their titles, and I also cannot wait for what’s to come… fans of HUSH are going to have much to celebrate!"

As mentioned in our previous post, Flanagan confirmed a physical copy was in the works at the ATX Festival in Texas earlier this year. At the time, he said that he and his team " did some really awesome new stuff for it," so it sounds like the DVD/Blu-ray version of Hush will have some great extras.

Hush officially begins streaming digitally to rent or buy on August 27. To stay up to date on thrillers, sci-fi, and horror, bookmark 1428 Elm and follow our Facebook page and Twitter account!
