Moviegoers can head to theaters in August 2024 to see The Crow: Everything to know
The horror lineup for summer 2024 looks incredible! There are several new horror films set to be released in theaters this August, but the main one that should be on everyone's radar is The Crow. If you're looking forward to watching this highly anticipated movie, all you need to do is continue reading because we shared everything there is to know about it down below.
The Crow has been described as a dark fantasy film with horror elements to it. English film director Rupert Sanders helmed the movie from a screenplay co-written by Zach Baylin and Will Schneider. It's based on the 1989 supernatural superhero comic book series of the same name by James O'Barr and is the fifth movie in The Crow film series. Additionally, it's a remake of the 1994 film of the same name, which is also the first movie in The Crow film series.
A remake of The Crow was first announced back in December 2008 when English filmmaker Stephen Norrington revealed to the world that he was planning to write and direct a "reinvention" of the 1994 version. However, he ended up dropping out of the project and various directors, screenwriters, and cast members would later join and step out of the project as well.
It wasn't until April 2022 that things started looking up for the remake. Boy Kills World star Bill Skarsgård had signed on to play the lead role of Eric Draven aka The Crow in the film, with Sanders joining as director and Baylin as a writer. That same month, British singer FKA Twigs joined the cast to play Shelly Webster, Eric's fiancée.
New cast additions were announced later, and the cameras started rolling on the movie in July 2022 in Prague, Czech Republic. In September 2022, filming officially wrapped. Besides Bill Skarsgård and FKA Twigs, the cast is also made up of Danny Huston, Isabella Wei, Laura Birn, Sami Bouajila, and Jordan Bolger.
Musician Eric Draven and his fiancée Shelly Webster were living a happy life until Shelly's dark past catches up to her, and she and Eric are brutally murdered on the night before their wedding day. However, Eric is given the chance to save Shelly when supernatural forces resurrect him from the dead. Now, he's back to get his bloody revenge on his and his fiancée's killers.
The Crow theatrical release date
The fantasy horror flick is set to make its way to theaters on Friday, Aug. 23, 2024. As of May 2024, tickets are not available to purchase, but they should be as we near the movie's release. This film will most likely be given a streaming release as well.
While there isn't a streaming release date just yet, it'll likely make its way to Peacock sometime after its theatrical release. This is because Lionsgate has a multiyear deal with Peacock where its theatrically released movies head to the streaming service sometime after their theatrical run. The Crow is being distributed by Lionsgate therefore it's considered a Lionsgate movie. A digital release is also expected to happen at a later date.
Once we know for sure where and when The Crow will stream and when it will be available to rent or purchase digitally, we'll make sure to come back and let you know. So, stay tuned to 1428 Elm!
