Netflix: Files of the Unexplained docuseries explores true stories of the strange, puzzling and possibly paranormal
By Carla Davis
Netflix began streaming a new 8-episode docuseries called Files of the Unexplained on April 3, and as of today (April 5), it is listed as number one on the streamer’s “Top 10 Shows in the U.S. Today” category.
The popularity of the series makes sense – there is something so compelling about a good mystery, especially when it comes real life events.
As described by Netflix, Files of the Unexplained “investigates eight haunting encounters that may make you start second-guessing everything you’ve ever known.” The cases involve everything from apparitions to severed feet washing up on the West Coast to alien abductions. Each episode includes witness interviews, news stories, back-up documentation and commentary by experts in their field.
The episode break-down for Nextflix series Files of the Unexplained is as follows:
Pascagoula Alien Abduction – Mississippi, 1973: two men claim to have been forcibly abducted by beings from a UFO. Charles Hickson and Calvin Barker said they were fishing on the Pascagoula River when an oval-shaped flying object rendered them“conscious but paralyzed.”
Ghost of Myrtles Plantation – The Myrtles Plantation in St. Francisville, Louisiana was built in 1796 by General David Bradflord. Now a bed and breakfast, there are numerous reports of guests and staff experiencing paranormal activity in the building and on the grounds. *Note: Several years ago, I was a paranormal investigator, and spent a fun night exploring the Myrtles Plantation. We didn’t have a lot of activity, but the place is definitely eerie and fascinating.
Missing Yuba County Five – On a February night in Yuba County, California, Five young men disappeared after attending a basketball game. Days later, their car was found abandoned in the Plumas National Forest; the car was in good running order, making the reason for its abandonment unknown. Things only got more mysterious when four of the men were found dead.
Government’s UFO Conspiracy – As shown in the Gimbal Video, US Military personnel have reported sightings of UAP (Unidentified Aerial Phenomena for decades. These people were kept quiet by our government until a whistle blower working for the Department of Defense spoke out in 2023.
Haunting of Lake Lanier – Lake Lanier is a man-made lake in Georgia, which plummets to 200 feet at its deepest point. Since its formation in 1956, more than 500 people have died there (not all by drowning). One of the most famous cases was the death of r&b singer’s singer Usher’s 11-year-old stepson Kile, who was fatally injured when his inner tube was run into by a jet ski. With all of the fatalities suffered on Lake Lanier, it’s no wonder people believe it is haunted.
Mysteries of Mt. Shasta – Wikipedia describes Mount Shasta as a “potentially active volcano” in Siskiyou County, California, an area originally inhabited by Native American Tribes. The legends, myth and history of Mount Shasta have led to multiple reports of strange activity.
Bizarre Blobs of Washington – In August of 1994 in Oakville, Washington, there were reports of clear gelatinous blobs of goo that rained down overnight. The strange blobs called multiple residents to become ill. There are still no clear answers as to what the substance was or where it came from.
Floating Feet of Salish Sea – From 2007 to 2023, around 24 severed feet were found washed up on the shore. In most cases, the finder discovered a shoe, and upon picking it up, found that it contained a decaying foot. Is there foul play involved, is it paranormal? While investigators have been able to identify some of the victims, others remain unknown.
Files of the Unexplained can only be found on Netflix.
