I can remember it like it was yesterday. It was the summer of 2021, and Netflix decided to drop three amazing horror films throughout the month of July. Those films were Fear Street Part One: 1994, Fear Street Part Two: 1978 and Fear Street Part Three: 1666. They were released on a weekly basis and received mostly positive reviews from critics. Regular viewers also enjoyed all three movies and went looking for information on a fourth film immediately after finishing the last film.

While talks were being had about a fourth installment as early as July 2022, a fourth film wasn't actually confirmed until November 2023, when Scott Stuber, Netflix's Head of Film, announced that a standalone fourth movie from R. L. Stine's book series was in the works. In March 2024, the movie's official title was revealed to be Fear Street: Prom Queen.

We recently learned that production has started on the highly anticipated fourth film, which is incredible news! But what do we do in the meantime while we wait? Well, what we've decided to do is rank the first three Fear Street movies from worst to best. If you're curious to know where each movie falls on our ranking, all you have to do is continue reading.

3. Fear Street Part One: 1994

Hear me out. All three Fear Street movies are entertaining to watch, but for the sake of this ranking, the first film is going to be our least-liked movie in the film series. However, I will say that this movie had some pretty brutal slayings that left my jaw dropped. The bread slicer death scene still has me shaken to this day. And I had complete chills while listening to the creepy song that possessed killer Ruby Lane sings before killing her victims.

Fear Street Part One: 1994 sets up the fictional world that viewers will become more familiar with as they continue to go through the films. It centers around a teen girl and her group of friends as they take on the sinister force that has plagued their town for over 300 years. Kiana Madeira stars in the leading role of Deena, a heartbroken teen girl who does everything in her power to save her ex-girlfriend from a dark curse. Also joining her in the cast are Olivia Scott Welch, Benjamin Flores Jr., Julia Rehwald, Fred Hechinger, Ashley Zukerman, Darrell Britt-Gibson, Maya Hawke, and others.

2. Fear Street Part Three: 1666

This is the final installment in the Fear Street trilogy, and we're taken back to the 17th century to learn the origins of the Shadyside curse that has afflicted the unlucky town of Shadyside for centuries. It all started with the witch hunt of Sarah Fier, an innocent young woman who was used as a scapegoat for allegations of witchcraft and lost her life when the real suspect was a rich and influential family who made a deal with the devil to get whatever they wanted. In this film, we're also taken back to the 1994 timeline, where Deena and her friends put a stop to the curse once and for all.

Besides being thoroughly entertained throughout the entire film, what was really great about Fear Street Part Three: 1666 was that the cast from the first two films appeared in new roles. But overall, this movie ties everything together perfectly, and it does a good job of leaving viewers wanting more.

1. Fear Street Part Two: 1978

Fear Street Part Three: 1666 is hands down the best movie in the trilogy. I'm a sucker for horror movies set in summer camps, so this film got my attention right away. There are so many reasons why I enjoyed this movie, like Cindy and Ziggy's emotional relationship, the plot twist involving Ziggy, the insane killings, and the fact that it paid homage to the old camp slashers such as Friday the 13th. Honestly, it's one of my top slashers, and I often go back and re-watch it because it's just that good.

Set in the cursed town of Shadyside, a bunch of teens at summer camp find themselves fighting for their lives when an axe-wielding killer goes on a murder spree. Stranger Things actress Sadie Sink and One Piece's Emily Rudd star in the leading roles of Ziggy and Cindy Berman, two sisters who have a complicated relationship. Joining them in the cast are Ryan Simpkins, McCabe Slye, Ted Sutherland, Gillian Jacobs, Benjamin Flores Jr., Chiara Aurelia, and others.
